Sullivan Golden Arrows beat the Dugger Bulldogs 19-0 at Sportsman's Field. Arrows opened scoring early and added two more touchdowns, while Dugger threatened twice but could not break through. McCracklin Sevier and Thrash er starred for Sullivan, with Harrison and Horn leading Dugger.
Miners of the day shift at Victory Coal Mine resume work after an 18 day shutdown following mass discharge. A local meeting at Twelve Points Thursday night reportedly approved a return to work 25 to 1. Officials say 201 of 235 miners were at work Friday as other district mines operated.
Bob Humphreys defeated Pat Size ten to nine in the championship flight to retain the title of champion golfer of Greene County. Sammy Stockrahm won the second flight over Herschel Moore two and one, while Herschel Lynn beat Jack White six to five in the third flight. Local pro Bobby Hess called the tournament the club's best and announced a stag barbecue planned for Thursday September 19 with trophies for winners and possible annual event.
Grover C. Kirk of Sullivan route 5 died at his home at 7:45 this morning after an 18 month illness. Born November 20, 1888 in Monroe County, he was a member of Dugger Baptist Church Dugger Masonic Lodge and Snow Hill local U M W of A. Surviving are his widow Evaline two sons Harry L. Kirk of Linton route 2 Charles W. Kirk Sullivan route 5 Earl at home and six daughters Mable Pulliam Farmersburg Hazel S. Price and Pauline Price both of Greenwood Mary A. Kirk Indianapolis and Vera Kirk at home. The body was taken to Newkirk Funeral Home in Pleasantville awaiting arrangements.
Three-year-old Madeline Tobias of Kansas City, Missouri, was found safe in a Terre Haute farm house five days after being kidnaped. Her maid Mildred Everett was arrested on kidnapping charges after bringing the child to the Funkhouser residence. Police said the child stayed in three homes during the stay and cried when separated. The maid claimed she took the child to have one of her own.
A Friday birth to Mrs Leoa Jane Harrah Morgan produced Max Dennis. Another Friday birth to Mrs Dorothy Loffland Bloomfield route 1 yielded Gary Wayne. A Friday birth to Mrs Harry Christley Crane named Larry Raymond. Margaret Landis Linton route 3 welcomed William Edward. Admissions include Mrs Lathew Carr Dugger. Minor surgeries for Mrs Edmond Gessell Crane Mrs Alton Groves and Wallace C Hunter Worthington Saturday.
Funeral services for Rev. Allen C. Trusty 75 a longtime Christian minister were held at the Jasonville Christian church. He died at his Plainfield home after several months illness. Survived by widow Mary and two daughters Lillian Caldwell and Esther Barlow and brother Jesse Trusty. Burial was in Chamberville cemetery. McClanahan Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Gerstmeyer Tech’s Black Cats prepare for their opening game against the Linton Miners Friday evening here under new lights. Stan Machango is noted as standout, while Coach Fred Wampler tightens the roster amid size concerns. The Miners, coached by Roy Williams, travel from Terre Haute and aim to stand the trip in good shape.
Riley of South Bend defeated Linton 20 to 13 in an opening football game before 6000 fans Saturday night. Linton led 7 0 at halftime, with Bud Peterson passing for 28 yards and a touchdown, but Riley answered with two second half scores including a 20th point after Derda’s kick.
Meredith J. Messick, prominent Bloomfield business and civic figure born July 23 1865 in Bedford, died at his home after a long illness. Survived by wife Lou Inman Messick two sons Angu s I Messick and Paul M Messick and brother Dr Benjamin T Messick. Funeral at Baptist church Bloomfield Tuesday at two with burial in Grandview Cemetery.

Miss Bernice Stone the secretary at Linton Stockton high school for three and a half years departed for Indianapolis to enter City Hospital School of Nursing accompanied by Mrs. Vernon House Mrs. Rex Stone and Charles Cole. Miss Stone will be succeeded by Miss Rose Scecina.
Linton Saddle Club and local horse enthusiasts are invited to a 7:30 P M meeting Wednesday at the club track near Wilkinson Lumber. Participants will ride to the Lee Sherrard park clubhouse for a watermelon feed following the ride.

Paxton resident James T. Smith died Sunday afternoon at 5 45 in Mary Sherman hospital Sullivan after long illness. Born May 29 1862 in Greene county he lived much of his life in Paxton and was a Christian church member. Surviving children include Marie Zezula Los Angeles Jessie Flath Clara Vester Martha Smith Della Banther and John Kendall Paxton and two Illinois brothers Casper and Richard. Burial in Webb cemetery with services at Paxton Methodist church led by Rev Eli Yates. Funeral arrangements at Newkirk Funeral Home Pleasantville and returning to Mrs Kendall’s home Tuesday morning.
All Veterans of Foreign Wars members are asked to meet at city hall Wednesday evening at seven o clock. The gathering will discuss business of importance announced today.
Great Britain withdrew its 11 billion damage claim against Italy and waived all reparations except the right to seize Italian property on British territory. The move aimed to influence the peace conference and help assess other Balkan claims such as Yugoslavia's 1.3 billion and Greece's 2 billion. A 1942 Ford driven by Buzz McCammon 22 of Dugger crashed into a 1937 Plymouth driven by Robert Wardell of Sullivan on U S Route 41 near Gilmore Corner. McCammon was arrested for operating under the influence. Wardell and James Ragsdale were treated for cuts and bruises.
James Tomilson and Carl Fry man of Indianapolis flew to Linton with three dozen goldfish to visit Mr. and Mrs. Jack Allen and enjoy a day at the striper ponds. The fish snubbed the guests and sent them home fishless.
