The Shot-Firer notes residents dumping unsightly trash at the roadways near Lee Sherrard park northeast of Linton. If the trash came from Linton, it would be closer to the city dump southeast of town.
Farrer Rippetoe of WBOW Terre Haute will be the principal speaker as the Greater Linton club resumes its monthly meetings at the First Methodist church. The banquet starts at 6 20 p.m with the talk on The Commercial Side of Broadcasting. Lozier Ziegler will report six months of club activity and upcoming civic affairs.
Dwight Bryant of Linton was fined $1 and costs totaling $11.80 with a six month suspended sentence by Mayor Arthur M. Grass for public intoxication. He was arrested by Linton police Monday night.

Funeral services for Ollie Watson, 78, were held this afternoon at the M. J. Afkin and Son Funeral home. Burial followed in Fairview cemetery. He is survived by his widow Carrie Bays Watson, two sisters Myrtle Goodman and Viola Erickson, three half brothers Homer Bland Omer Bland and Elba Bland, and several nieces and nephews.
Hugh Cummins of Knox County mourns his wife Vesta Cummins aged 50 who died when a tractor overturned into a drainage ditch yesterday. He was driving the tractor during the fatal incident.
Greene circuit court at Bloomfield completes arrangements for the September term and prints a calendar of civil and criminal cases. Entries include multiple family, domestic, and property disputes such as Tolen v Tolen, Sil v Silvey, Stark v Stark, Sims v Sims, and many State of Indiana cases involving Bogard Watkins and other parties across September into November.
A marriage license was issued by the clerk of the Sullivan Circuit Court to Wanda Fern Thompson of Sullivan route three and Billy Douglas Ranard of Dugger.
The Greene County Council continued budget studies and was not expected to report decisions until late this afternoon.
Total enrollment reaches about 1025, up roughly twenty pupils from 1947. O L Johnson, local superintendent, notes late enrollments and provides class counts at PA School building and High School, with 325 pupils expected in four classes plus 90 eighth graders at the High School. Elementary totals by ward and grade show a 26 pupil rise to 607 across first through seventh grades.
Mrs Barbara Bridges of Jacksonville gave birth to a son yesterday. Mrs Dencil Shepherd of Bloomfield Route 2 was admitted for medical treatment last evening. Mrs Jack Cox of Bloomfield had major surgery today. Mrs Marie Dixon of Odon was admitted for medical treatment. Clyde McCain of Linton received medical treatment this morning. Mrs Ismay Brunton of Bloomfield had a tonsillectomy this morning. William Breese of Linton was discharged today.
The Linton Odd Fellows lodge will hold a meeting at 7 30 tonight at the local lodge hall. Officers urged all members to attend.
Greene county residents win honors at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis. A F Kramer and Son of Jasonville take reserve champion Chester White pure bred barrow and second place for a single barrow. Harold Zimmerly of Switz City places tenth with his pen of three Hampshire barrows.
Military funeral services for Sgt Robert J Cotton Field 22 of Coalmont killed in France on Nov 13 1944 will be held at 2 pm Saturday at Coal Mont Baptist Church. Rev Bert Sanders will officiate with burial in Sanders Cemetery. The body arrives in Jasonville Friday at 730 am with military escort and is to be cared for by McClanahan Funeral Home. Field survived by his parents four sisters and five brothers.
A $100 donation from Mrs. Ruth V. Barr of Chicago Illinois was acknowledged by Deaconess Nora D. Yoder. Funds will enclose the front porch of Rest Haven and create a sitting room for men next winter. Barr is a niece of Mrs. Olive Cooke who died last week and of Mrs. Charles Anderson of Linton.
In Fort Worth residents visiting the home of George Stevens receive personalized drinking glasses. Mrs Stevens earned the hobby by engraving guest names on each glass for individual use.
Soviet air maneuvers over Berlin and four power corridors were announced as a threat to the airlift. West Berlin police were lured from City hall and arrested in French Army trucks protected by French troops. The incident occurred near Dom Cathedral as Soviet and German police stopped the convoy.
Marion county judge issued a temporary order restraining the Indiana state election board from placing the Dixiecrat ticket on the ballot. Ralph E Hanley filed the petition arguing the party's policy violates state and federal constitutions and seeks a permanent injunction to keep the party off. The board had already listed the Dixiecrats on the ballot.
Funeral arrangements were announced for Pvt Donald Reynolds of Linton who died in France on November 14 1944. The 31 year old soldier will be buried in Fairview cemetery after services at Welch and Cornett Funeral Home. Reynolds survived by wife Ava and three children, with brothers and sisters listed.
Dedication services for the Morris Chapel Methodist church, five miles southwest of Linton, will be held Sunday with Dr. S. W. Robinson officiating. A basket dinner will follow at noon in the lower auditorium. The 30 by 40 foot concrete block building replaces the former church destroyed by fire on April 9, 1947.

The Greene County Board of Commissioners approved routine business including claims against the county treasury at their September meeting held at Aloormn field on Tuesday.
Joseph Denali aged 32 admitted in court that a friend's wallet containing 66 dollars was entrusted to him and he lost 840 of the money while shooting dice. The tale frames a temptation that overcame friendship as the dice game led to a financial loss.
