The Coast Guard cutter Jarvis, disabled after running aground in a violent Alaska storm, reached calm Aleutians waters under tow by a Japanese merchant ship. No injuries among its 170 crew. Bombers Hit North Vietnam Supply Depots Near DMZ
UPI reports American B52s struck targets within 10 miles of Nixon’s 20th Parallel limit in raids on North Vietnamese supply depots. The attacks marked the farthest north in seven months. Ground fighting flared near Saigon as government forces gained ground in the Central Highlands. F4 Phantoms based in Thailand also hit a missile base five miles north of the frontier using laser guided bombs, destroying 64 surface-to-air missile canisters.

Reporter Jailed Over Refusal to Reveal Sources

Five Die In Cave In In Memphis Sewer Dig
Five construction workers were buried when a 30 foot trench collapsed in Memphis Tennessee. Two men escaped as dirt and mud avalanche over the others. Rescue crews recovered three bodies. searchers continued for the remaining two. Civil Defense officials said the victims were likely all dead.

Two College Students Die In Campus Clash At Southern University
On Thursday two black students were killed during a battle over control of the administration building as National Guard troops surrounded a tear gas clash on the Southern University Baton Rouge campus. Authorities blamed demonstrators for throwing bombs and tear gas. the coroner cited head injuries from lead fragments but could not confirm the weapon.
