Henry Carner aged 70 was found hanging at his farm after mourning his ill health and his wife’s death. Alien Cooper 33 died from an electric shock in his bathroom while adjusting a radio during a bath. Mr and Mrs Clarence Corafroe aged 70 and 68 were killed on U S 42 when struck by a semi driven by Raymond Paris 28 of Louisville after he said he did not see them. Valparaiso University will recess for housing space for 400 Lutheran pastors attending a four day Missouri Synod seminar on postwar problems led by Dr L J Sieck of Concordia Seminary. United war chest workers in Allen county were urged by Countess Maria Pulaski to push the drive over the top at a breakfast event.
A two week revival is held by The Salvation Army with Rev Earl Poorman delivering the sermons. The public is invited to attend and participate in services and events.
American 3rd army widened the Moselle line with a bridge head 18 miles from the German border and pressed toward Metz. German withdrawals appeared along a 30 mile front south of Metz as Patton sought to encircle the fortress rather than storm it.
Benjamin L. Hobbs aged 82 died Sunday at his son Ray Hobbs home in Oaktown after a two year illness. He was born in Vigo County on August 26 1862 and lived much of his life in Oak Town. Surviving children include Noland William Hattie Urel Dora Earl Toxie Benton Ray all of Oaktown with others in Muncie Simonton New Lebanon and Newport. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at Rose Chapel with burial in Webb Cemetery.
Washington reports Senators and congressmen begin returning from recess to wind up the 786th congress in a four to five week session convening at noon tomorrow. Priority items include flood control funding, postwar highway spending, and revival of crop insurance with social security debates looming.
Ethel Barrymore, 65, was moved from her daughter’s home to Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital today with pneumonia and a cardiac condition. Her Broadway engagement in Embzzzled Heaven was canceled after illness persisted.
More than three hundred persons attended the Midland amateur show held Thursday evening. Winners included Jerry Neal Tyree of Jasonville first in trumpet, Lola Flater and Carolyn Flater of Linton second, and the Girls Glee club and Senior boys tying for third.
Mrs Leola Rector Cullison has received a citation sent to her husband Sgt George H Cullison overseas with the US Army. The 42nd Bombardment Wing issued on Sept 19 1944 a Croix de Guerre avec Palme order honoring the 37th Bombardment Squadron for its part in supporting Allied defenses in Italy starting May 11 1944 against heavy anti aircraft fire. Mrs Neva Nevada Vickers 54 died at her home in Jasonville Friday evening. Survived by three daughters and two sons, three sisters, five brothers, with services at the Assembly of God church Tuesday at two, Rev Zella Anthony officiating. Burial in Lebanon cemetery.
Chicago reports an acute cigarette shortage. Canadian delegates to the International Air Conference are managing. A delegate says Canada has no shortage and newcomers bring cartons, with Canadians not crossing customs to bring U.S. cigarettes into the country.
Multiple patients from Jasonville Indianapolis and nearby towns are admitted for medical treatment or observation and discharged this week. Births include Larry Gene Bechtel and James Steven Eaton, with names for babies and parents listed.
Two cases filed seek divorce for John Walter Clayton versus Betty Louise Clayton and a complaint to quiet title by William Harry Luxton and Agnes Luxton against Ephriam Powers George Luxton and others.

Fire reported Saturday night caused about 50 dollars in damage to Sam Hayes property on State Road 54. Linton city firefighters were dispatched to the scene around 8:15 p m.

A Milwaukee and St. Paul passenger train derailed after colliding with a stationary Illinois Central freight train near Lincoln. The wreck tore through the freighter, carrying Army jeeps and trucks, but no injuries were reported. Officials investigate cause as passengers rerouted by bus.
Donna Jean Cornelius infant daughter of Gene and Virginia Clanton Cornelius of Indianapolis died at the family home at 1 15 this morning after an illness of one day. Born May 8 1944 she was six months and five days old. Survivors include parents grandparents Camille and Mrs Cornelius of Dugger and great grandmother Mrs August Cornelius of Dugger. Aikin Funeral Home in Dugger sent to the home of Harrison Crooks in Dugger this evening for services Wednesday at two with Rev Shirley Barrow of the Dugger Baptist church officiating. Interment will be in Dugger cemetery.
The Red Cross urges all personnel handling service kits to tap in quickly. Those unable to bring kits may wait 204 and will be accommodated at once.
Officials announced no more canning sugar coupons will be issued after November 15. Residents holding sugar coupons were urged to surrender them before the deadline.
