Dan Patch a World Famous Racehorse Dies at Twenty
The Indiana Sesquicentennial Scrapbook recalls Dan Patch, the famed pacer born 1896 in Oxford Indiana. He never lost a race, set records on the Grand Circuit, and died after a illness on July 11, 1916 at age twenty. The horse’s owner Marion W Savage later died within a day. Dan Patch’s heart weighed over nine pounds and he became a national sensation attracting crowds and even song and movie attention.

Two Car Crash In City Injuries No Reported
Linton police investigated a two car mishap Wednesday at 3 45 p m at a point fifty feet west of the intersection of Vincennes and First Street northwest. Gregory J Hubbell an 18 year old from Linton drove west on Vincennes when Angus S Messick 74 from Jasonville pulled from a parking space into his path. Hubbell car sustained 100 right side damage. No tickets issued and no injuries reported.

The Defense Department listed two Indiana servicemen among recent Viet Nam casualties. Army 1st Lt. Ronald Van Sessen of Hammond and Pfc. Howard Clanton of Indianapolis were named. Roads in Indiana show hazardous statewide conditions

Mrs. Turner Dies in Linton Funeral Rites Set
Helene Sarmont Turner of Linton died at Freeman-Greene County Hospital at 2 20 a m on her 71st birthday after a two week stay. Born November 2 1895 in Washington she lived in Linton most of her life with a Santa Barbara period. Survived by husband Elkin Turner a former Daily Citizen publisher, son Joe Turner Jr daughter Mrs Damon Williams three grandchildren one great grandchild and two sisters. Funeral at Welch and Cornett Funeral Home Saturday at 2 pm with Rev Boyd Stepler, burial in Fairview Cemetery.
