South Bend Indiana May 16 The Singer Sewing Machine plant shut down by a 900 worker walkout after workers had returned for one day. picket lines surrounded the factory and access was restricted to essential staff. The Local 917 union blamed the return of the original worker whose hiring sparked the dispute and accused the company of interfering.
