Top Indiana officials and business leaders say a great awakening is underway as the state eyes a record primary vote next Tuesday. They cite fears about party affiliation requirements, unfamiliar candidates, and busy schedules as reasons voters stay away, while medical groups oppose Oscar Ewing's socialized medicine plan.
Paul Mason 70, longtime Sullivan County native, died 6:30 AM Monday in Marion County Nursing Home Indianapolis after nine months illness. Born July 27, 1847, he lived in Indianapolis eight years as elevator operator. Survived by brothers Charles Mason Dugger and Will Mason Los Angeles. Body returned to Evans Funeral Home Dugger. funeral at 2:00 PM Wednesday with Rev. V M Suddarth. burial Camp Ground Cemetery New Lebanon.
Open house at College Hill school is scheduled Friday from 1 to 9 PM hosted by the Parent Teachers Association. Work exhibits will fill classroom displays and students will perform in a program. the PTA final meeting at 7 30 PM will elect officers for the coming year. Parents and friends are invited to drop in anytime.
The Greene circuit court at Bloomfield announces the May term calendar with cases from Goodman v Goodman to Mitchell v Town of Worthington and Moore v Driscoll set across dates May 4 to July 8. Numerous civil actions including Barter v Bowman Indiana Bell v Greene County Telephone and many family and property disputes are listed.
The Lyons high school graduating class and staff present Glen Lily a play set just after the Civil War in Lyons Memorial gym. The production features Betsy Rollison and Dewey Brown among others with a cultured lover and comic subplots. Chorus directed by Ardath Bloomer.
The Treasure Chest weekly program in Linton has been temporarily suspended, announced by leaders. Meetings held each Wednesday afternoon in recent weeks were sponsored by local merchants and business men.
Six hundred fifty pupils from Linton elementary and seventh grade will perform at 7 30 Thursday evening in the Linton Stockton high school auditorium. Mrs Tasa Clifford Love directs with music by teachers from four ward buildings. Tickets are sold at the school and seating may sell out.

Federal judge Jennings Bailey gave the lightest possible sentence six days after a guilty verdict by the Senate subcommittee. The counts could have carried up to ten years each, but ran concurrently.

Indiana voters faced a busy primary with more than 600000 ballots expected as 58 candidates vied for 22 party nominations. Polls opened at 6 am local time across 4044 precincts in 92 counties while southern showers threatened little.
Wayne Hamilton announces the consolidation of Rexall Drug Store at 28 South Main with Hamilton Drug Co. at 24 North Main in Linton Indiana. The Rexall stock moves this week and the Rexall location stays open briefly for remodeling and paint and wallpaper sales.
Linton merchants voted to survey coal mine locals and farmers on keeping Central Standard Time or switching to Daylight Saving Time. The meeting at the public library discussed whether residents want an extra daylight hour in the morning or evening as several nearby communities already use the fast time. If a majority favors it, store hours may shift.
Election returns will be available by telephone tonight in Linton through the Greene County Young Peoples Democratic club. Results tabulated above the McPhail shoe store and at the Linton Republican headquarters. Call 1120 or 96 for results.
Switz City High School to host the Spring Music Festival at 7 30 p m Friday night with the theme American Scenes. Elementary grades the Glee Club and the Band perform with special numbers by various groups and individuals depicting American history from past to present.
Clay B Moss 72 a joint senator from Clay and Park counties and former Linton resident died at 3 00 Sunday afternoon at his home northeast of Brazil after a heart attack He had left Linton twenty five years ago and served two years of a four year term in the Indiana General Assembly. He is survived by his wife three sons a stepson two sisters a brother and eight grandchildren Funeral services are set for 1 00 Wednesday at Miller and Sons Funeral home Brazil with burial at Fairview Cemetery Linton Jasonville Masonic lodge to conduct grave services.
Owen Lattimore charged ex communist Louis Budenz is a paid informer and unscrupulous finger man. He testified under oath that McCarthy’s accusations of communism against him were lies and criticized Budenz, McCarthy, and Senate probe actions in a 58 page statement before the Senate subcommittee.
Greene county saw unusually light turnout in today's primary, with Stockton township showing 460 votes from 1724 registered, about 20.5 percent. Richland Cass and Washington townships reported heavier activity, while observers expected around 8,000 total votes countywide. Weather was cloudy but voting conditions were favorable.
A head on collision on Ind 46 five miles west of Greensburg killed two people. State police identified victims as Clifford C. Boys 60 Norwood Ohio and Mrs Bernice K Leven 57 Bloomington Indiana. Boys was said to be on the wrong side of the highway.
