Despite bad weather six Linton Girl Scout members raised 37 dollars for the Society for Crippled Children through Easter lily sales on the streets. The six were Darline Weaver Jackie Sargent Juanita Frye Manna Duffrey Leona Duffrey and Mary M Sahm. Committee thanks the girls and public for support as remaining downtown cans tally was not complete.
Henry A. Wallace told Congress that President Truman's preparedness plan would trigger an international arms race and likely cause unnecessary war. He rejected Russia as a threat, accusing officials of creating a crisis to push universal military training and conscription.
Remains of Private First Class Arrentus J Barnett from Linton Indiana will be returned from Belgium for final interment accompanied by an Army honor escort from the Chicago Distribution Center. Barnett served overseas and was buried at Henri Chappelle before being sent home at the request of his next of kin Arrentus Barnett Sr Rural Route No 1 Linton Indiana. A national poll showed 70 percent of Gold Star families favored bringing home deceased service members prompting about 6700 Indiana soldiers to return through Chicago over the next two years.
The condition of Mrs. Robert Blaker at 390 Fourth Street Northwest shows improvement after a serious illness. Friends may call now, according to the update.

All dens will present den stunts and all Cubs are urged to attend along with interested parents and youth. Certificates of registration will be given to Fred Bledsoe Leon J Cole Kenny Hamilton Don Stark Ronnie L Luxton Donald McHaley and Alva M Payne.
Senate President Arthur H. Vandenberg urged immediate passage of a 463 million dollar China aid package to bolster free peoples against conquest. He praised Chiang Kai-Shek’s regime, denounced Chinese Communists, and urged quick congressional action on Europe recovery and aid to China, Greece, and Turkey.

In New York City on March 30 police fought a large group of striking AFL financial workers who blocked the NYSE entrance. Dozens were dragged into patrol wagons after a 15 minute melee while traffic was diverted and the exchange opened on time with steady market activity.
Former Linton resident Mildred Davis Ladson, 32, died last Thursday after years of illness. She had moved to Cashmere, Washington, two years ago and was buried there on Saturday. Survived by husband Oakie Ladson, son Norman, sister Mrs. George White, Wenatchee, brothers Dias Hoskins of farm land and Vernal Hoskins of Chicago, and several nieces and nephews. Word of her death reached Mrs. Betty Thompson, a niece.
A report shows free-will offerings of 117.01 from two Easter and Good Friday services. At the Evangelical United Brethren church Good Friday service 31.83 was collected, and the Messiah program Sunday yielded 85.18. About seven hundred attendees participated.
Radio Moscow announced that a American directed spy ring of former German army officers operated from western Germany Austria and Sweden to spy on the Soviet zone The ring centered in Frankfurt then Munich and was led by Col Gen Franz Halder with units for military political and economic espionage Pinkert testified the group was subsidized by illegal Fascist networks and German industrialists providing monthly funds.
The House tentatively voted to include Spain in the European recovery aid. An amendment to a 6.205 billion dollar foreign aid bill passed 149 to 52 adding Spain to 16 western nations slated for aid. Reps Holifield and Javits opposed the move.

John L. Lewis appeared before a presidential fact finding board investigating the 16 day soft coal strike after defying a subpoena. He said he had not inspired the strike and faced contempt risk for ignoring the subpoena. The board must report to President Truman by midnight Monday and Truman may seek a court injunction to end the walkout.
A biting wind did not deter about five hundred children at the annual Easter Egg hunt held Saturday at High School park. The event was sponsored by the Linton Elks Lodge Community Chest Glenburn church Home Makers group and Roy Williams' physical education class at the high school. Grand prize eggs were won by Larry Chamberlain and Michall Mitchell. many other children took home prizes.
A Milwaukee resident troubled by insomnia was told by a psychiatrist that nothing is wrong with him that a reduction in housework and time outdoors won’t cure. He stopped helping at home and now skates each night while his wife handles the dishes. He says he sleeps well at night.
Indiana Governor Gates visited Coatesville after a violent tornado virtually erased the town. He pledged state resources for reconstruction as residents and local leaders map a return, with Red Cross asking donors to stop clothing and furniture shipments due to overage.
Senator William F. Knowland denounces a standby draft proposal as insufficient to deter Soviet aggression. He argues Russia will not be restrained by mere manpower registration and says the idea could mislead the public and not bind the Politburo. Brewster and others propose standby draft to spur voluntary enlistment.
