Greene County Board of Commissioners met in the courthouse with all members and local officials present. The Lattas Creek Conservancy District outlined a bridge removal plan and threatened suit if not signed, but the board approved the agreement due to funding limits. Also approved were a paddle boat purchase for Bloomfield ferry, temporary staffing changes, bids for five new dump trucks, and courthouse closure for Good Friday and Easter.

Larry Patton Rev. C C Fruth Rev. Paul Burris Rev. Noah Beadle Rev. A A Van Wormer Rev. David Deal will deliver the words with special numbers from several area church groups. The ministerial association invites the public to attend.
The Linton Ministerial Association sponsors a noon to 3 p.m. Good Friday service at First Baptist Church themed Words From The Cross. Speakers include Rev. Boyd Stepler, Rev. Ronald Henwood, Rev. Harold Scott, Rev. Leonard Nowell, Rev. William Sheffield, Rev. Lloyd Shannon, and Rev. Dale Hemnbaugh. choirs from multiple local churches and Lin-Tones perform. Public attendance is invited.
Plainfield residents Glendell D. Phelps 25 and Patricia M. Phelps 18 were jailed in Greene County after a break-in at the Comet Mine east of Switz City Monday night. Officers said a vending machine was rifled and copper wire and bushings were targeted. Copper cable welding found in their car tied to a Spencer quarry theft over the weekend.
City league officials invite all managers directors fathers and others to a meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in the Jasonville Utility office to discuss league matters.
Sullivan County Park Board discussed a major facilities project at a Saturday breakfast meeting. The plan includes beaches a launching ramp docks roads and 180 camp sites with 50 50 cost sharing with the federal government under Public Law 566. A dam and lake contract was signed with Stouth and Kafiman Construction for 195 614.65 and will begin when weather permits. The park board members and staff outline the county owned recreation area to serve residents with ten miles of shoreline available for private development and a 30 year bond issue to fund the county share.
February's cost of living showed a modest 0.1 percent rise led by groceries falling 0.4 percent while medical costs jumped 0.7 percent. Personal income rose at a 2.4 billion annual rate, and durable goods orders declined to 22.2 billion, the lowest in 17 months, signaling slower economic momentum.

Flood forecasts show the Wabash and White Rivers near or above flood stage after two days of rain. Crests range from Covington to Montezuma on the Wabash with 14 to 17 feet, and the White River is expected to crest just over 14 to 18 feet at several towns including Seymour Petersburg Hazleton Spencer Elliston and Ed wardsport by mid next week.
A double fatality in Lake County raises Indiana 1967 traffic deaths to at least 224. Robert Smeltzer 23 of Wheatfield was killed in a two car crash at U.S. 30 and Indiana 55 near Merrillville. His wife Susan Kay 22 died four hours later in a Gary hospital. Three of the couple’s children were injured, one critically.
The Defense Department lists two Indiana servicemen killed in action in Vietnam Army S Sgt. Fred Hanshew Jr. and Marine Pfc. Richard Wolfington Jr. both named among the latest casualties.

HAGERSTOWN Ind. State Rep. Ralph H. Waltz 62 prominent farmer and businessman died Monday of an apparent heart attack. A legislator since 1959 he became ill at home and died as his wife drove him to Henry County Hospital in New Castle. Funeral services set for Thursday afternoon in Hagerstown.
President Johnson sent a letter to Ho Chi Minh on February 2 proposing direct U S North Vietnam talks. Ho Chi Minh rejected the offer, Hanoi Radio reported. Saigon premier Ky and chief Thieu also said Saigon made a direct peace overture to Hanoi, which was likewise declined. Johnson said progress was being made but the end was not in sight. Ho’s reply dated February 15 called for unconditional bombing cessation and end to war aggression as a precondition to negotiations.
Jasonville Gas Utility Board met at 6 30 p m to review gas system reports and financial matters. Walter Bonham reported 528 gas customers and Joyce Johnson noted the special utility fund balance of 6201 37 and bond sinking fund of 29950 40 with ordinances governing spending. The city operates 21 miles of mains and 72 106 feet of two inch pipe plus 3166 feet six inch 21341 feet four inch and 14116 feet three inch pipe. Attendees included Robert Austin Don McNabb Lewis McQueary John Wilkes Jack Ridinger and Mayor Gene Inman.
Worthington Ministerial Association hosts a Union Good Friday Service at First Christian Church Worthington at 1 p.m. Themed The Last Words of Christ from the Cross. Several pastors speak on The Message of Intercession Remembrance Loneliness Ing Refuge with special music by the Girls' Triple Trio from Worthington Jefferson High School accompanied by Mrs Shirley Pickard.
The Defense Department identifies Army Brig. Gen. Alfred J. F. Moody of Fairfax Virginia as the first U S general to die in Vietnam. Moody aged 49 died of a heart attack at An Khe northeast of Saigon, the Pentagon reported Monday.
