Homer V. Combs former custodian of Greene County Court House was buried at Grandview cemetery Bloomfield after dying suddenly of a heart attack He was born February 14 1887 in Bloomfield Survivors include Grace his widow and children Dale Mary A Arnold and Owen Combs Services were held at the Bloomfield Christian church with Jenkins Funeral Home in charge.
Three parliamentary committees from the Conservative, Agrarian and Liberal parties urged President Paasikivi to reject Moscow's bid for talks on a Finnish Soviet alliance. Conservatives and Liberals urged rejection of the entire proposal while the Agrarians refused any pact modeled on Hungary and Romania agreements.
Bay View club members are asked to bring food for the over seas box to the regular meeting at the local public library at 7 15 this evening. All members urged to be present.
The Greene County Nurses Association will hold its regular meeting at Mrs. Montell Cleveland's home Tuesday at 7 30 PM. Miss Hazel Alkire will serve as co host. All members are urged to attend.
Solsberry high school basketball team drew acclaim in Greene county after an 51-49 upset of Brazil in the regional semifinals at Martinsville. They fell to Bloomington 60-35 in the final, after leading 11-8 and 23-20 at halftime, shooting 21 of 55. Bloomington beat Terre Haute Wiley 44-42 in the other Martinsville game. Semi finals set for Bloomington Central and others, with many city and county match ups listed for upcoming dates.
A 1948 model auto stolen in Detroit was found Friday afternoon in Switz City by State Policeman Ollie Hayek and Greene County Sheriff Charles Mansfield. The Packer Pontiac Motor Company of Detroit owned the vehicle and sent a representative to Bloomfield to claim it. Later the FBI asked Hayek to watch for two small boys reported hitchhiking on state road 67 near Switz City.
Members will hold a noon meeting Wednesday at the Linton Democrat headquarters. A covered dish luncheon will be served at noon and a program presented in the afternoon. All members and friends are invited to attend.
In Vienna a U S soldier was knocked down and shot in the back by a Russian guard after an argument near the Ringstrasse in front of the Russian Grand Hotel. Col Bernard Hurless said the incident was deliberately provoked and the soldier likely to lose an arm but expected to survive.
Funeral services were held at Owensburg Baptist Church for Rev. Thomas M. Waggoner 80 who died at his daughter Edith Lewis’s home in Owensburg at 1 45 Saturday morning after two months illness. He was a member of the Owensburg Masonic Lodge. Survivors include Roscoe Waggoner Switz City Edith Lewis Owensburg Ida Johnson Spencer Clarence Waggoner Bedford and Mrs Shaffer St Louis Mo His wife Florence preceded him in death two years ago. Rev Ora Bolton conducted the services with Masonic lodge members aiding at the graveside Jenkins Funeral Home Bloomfield arranged.
A series of medical notices from Linton and nearby towns reports several births and treatments. Betty Padgett of Crane welcomed a son named Matthew Floyd. Cleo Kirkham of Linton had a son named Robert Wayne. Lucille Wilkes of Jasonville and Aletha Carpenter of Linton had births, with Carpenter delivered by Caesarean section and in critical condition. Others include Marcella Blevens undergoing major surgery, Anna LeFebvre undergoing major surgery, Josephine Booker admitted for medical treatment, and Bernetta Mason undergoing minor surgery.
Kenneth Lawrence Franklin aged 19, Linton, Indiana, died Friday evening from rheumatic heart disease. Rev. John Jerrell led funeral services at the family home with burial in Fairview Cemetery. He was editor of the high school annual, president of a 4-H club, secretary of the local Future Farmers of America, and a member of the Conservation club. Survived by his parents James H. and Mrs. Franklin, six brothers, two sisters, and grandparents. Funeral home: M. J. Aikin and Son Funeral Home of Linton.
Keith O. Everhart age 59 veteran of World War I died at Mary Sherman hospital Sullivan at 4 am after a five week illness. He served overseas 11 months and worked as a coal miner. Survived by brothers Tom and Ketsel Everhart of Sullivan route 3. Funeral from Claiborne church at 2 pm Wednesday with burial there.
Mr and Mrs Melvin Johnson of Fontana California announce the birth of a 6 pound 9 1 2 ounce daughter Loretta Kay at Southern Permanent hospital on March 3. Mrs Johnson formerly Miss Mary Lou Begerman daughter of Mrs Naomi Begerman of Sixth Street Southeast Mr Johnson is a former resident of Sullivan.
President Paasikivi announced the Finnish government will pursue a Russo Finnish friendship and military pact with negotiations to be held in Moscow. Agendas split with Agraians and Social Democrats opposing talks. A violence incident arose as police corrected arrests tied to Ernesti Hentunen’s anti treaty remarks.
A Pennsylvania railroad locomotive on a Worthington area track sprayed steam across state road 67 and blinded a truck driver, causing a collision with a car driven by Nancy J. Bobbitt. Neither driver was injured and no arrests were made.
Tell City Indiana March 8 A five year old boy Earl Senn was blinded in one eye when a home made arrow pierced the front door keyhole. He sat inside as brothers shot dried weed arrows outside. A physician said the eye sight was destroyed.
Mr and Mrs Fay Wills of Detroit Michigan announce the birth of a seven pound girl Saturday evening. Mr Wills is brother of Mrs Glen Smith of Linton and a former resident of Linton.
The Senate unanimously approved a plan amending authority to cut off shipments of scarce U S industrial goods to Russia. In other items, a grand jury indicted eight corporations on price fixing charges in milk, and Hoosier editors urged Senator Jenner to resign.
Mrs. Sadie E. Floyd 64 died at her daughter’s residence 1163 A street northeast Linton after two years of declining health and a two week serious illness. She lived most of her life in Greene county and previously resided in Indianapolis and Lyons. Survived by two daughters one granddaughter two stepsons and three half sisters. Funeral from Little Shiloh church southeast of Lyons with burial in Prairie Chapel cemetery.
Members of the White Rose Parent Teachers Association will present a playlet as part of their program in the school building Tuesday evening at 7 30. The public is cordially invited to attend.
