Senate investigators ended their 20 month probe into Bobby Baker with Democrats and Republicans trading charges of politics. The Rules Committee approved its final report and will release it at 6 p.m. EDT.
West Berlin actress Christiane Schmidtmer will make her Hollywood film debut in Boeing Boeing alongside Jerry Lewis and Tony Curtis. The project marks her transition from European cinema to American production in a lighthearted comedy setting.
Tuesday's high reached 86 degrees with a low of 67 last night. At 7 39 a.m. today the temperature was 70. Precipitation was 89 and the river stage stood at 9 52.
Commerce Secretary John T. Connor said business is strong and the stock market volatility does not reflect a weakening economy. The Linton Fourth of July parade names Phil Harris as marshal with his wife Alice Faye. Entries must be sent by Thursday noon. Nannie Ruth Adams, 38, was held on preliminary cruelty and neglect charges after a newborn boy was found in a garbage can at her Indianapolis home. The infant, rescued from refuse and cared for in an incubator at Marion County General Hospital, was reported healthy and thriving. Adams admitted giving birth Monday afternoon and said she discarded the child due to inability to support him alongside her two other children.
Voters in Clay and Parke counties approve consolidation of Clay County Jackson Two with Van Buren School Corp. Result 922 to 293. Most opposed ballots came from Jackson Two areas. Van Buren School Corp. already serves parts of both counties.
Former Israeli premier David Ben-Gurion and allies broke from the Mapai party over November elections. He cited a long running dispute with Levi Eshkol and called for an independent candidate slate. The split traces to the Lavon affair and calls for a new inquiry.
Eight drivers from Greene County appear on a new Bureau of Motor Vehicles suspension list issued today. Names include Russell E. Abrell Worthington for leaving scene of accident and multiple record-point violations, John D. Bowersock route 2 Worthington for drunken driving, Jesse A. Hunter also for drunken driving, and others from Bloomfield Newberry Linton Jasonville Lyons with record-point matters and probation violation noted.
