After a vacation, the Linton newsletter returns with pool progress expected to let kids swim by week’s end. A three car crash at the intersection of highways 445 and 45 Friday evening injured ten people. Walter DeHosse 35 of Bicknell drove west on 45 and skidded left to avoid a stopped vehicle, striking Gary Graves 19 of Bloomfield, who then hit Frank Cecil 42 of Greentown. Injuries ranged from fractured noses to internal injuries. several were hospitalized and DeHosse charged with driving left of center.
Over the weekend in Geene county circuit court a divorce filing was listed: Mary Borders vs Donald Borders. Additionally H B Turner MD and J J Turner MD filed complaints on open book accounts against Clifford Williams James Grider Wayne Reed Sharon Reed Elaine Hudson Preston Ross Russell Giles Norma Jean Giles Sylvia Horn and Jerry Horn.
Four persons drowned in Indiana over the weekend as heat drove residents to lakes and streams. Edward Redermacher 20 Munster drowned at Indiana Dunes State Park Lake Michigan. Anthony Uloza Jr. 18 Hobart drowned Wahob Lake near Valparaiso. Jo Ann Henderson 39 Terre Haute drowned when a boat struck a log on the Wabash River. Mark Walters rural North Salem drowned in a farm pond after slipping into the water.
Governor Branigin advances Indiana's bid for the 280 million dollar AEC nuclear research center. He will send supplemental information Tuesday with two alternate power proposals from Indianapolis utilities and new air travel details. Branigin called a special legislative session to present Indiana’s bid.
Roiling water near the Linton pool sparked concerns as old pipes settled and clouded the supply. Officials said no breaks occurred. heavy usage caused the turbidity. Some cloudiness persisted but most faucets cleared. laundromats and homes faced reduced drinking water access.
Dexter Barton age 47 appeared in Greene County Circuit Court on Friday and pleaded guilty to public intoxication. He was fined 25 dollars plus costs and sentenced to 90 days at the Indiana State Farm with 60 days suspended.
Over the weekend at least twelve people died on Indiana highways from Friday evening to Sunday night. Fatal crashes include three in one collision near Scipio on Indiana 7 and five others across the state. GOP chairman Ray Bliss warned splinter groups like Free Society Association and Republicans for Progress could weaken the party by diverting fundraising. He urged unity and pledged to finance the Republican National Committee, noting funding shortfalls during the two day meeting with Eisenhower expected to speak.

Marlin Peyton, 52, of rural Mitchell, missing about a month, was found dead in a car submerged in the White River. Police believe he drowned accidentally while attempting to turn the car around on a narrow road above a steep river bank. A fisherman found the car and body Saturday morning near Peyton's summer cabin along the river.
The Arkansas River receded from its flood crest at Hutchison as levels dropped from 10.42 feet to 10.05 feet by Sunday night. Officials expected Wichita to see crest relief with flood stage at eight feet and forecast the river to remain within banks by Tuesday, aided by the city’s diversion canal nicknamed the big ditch.

State Police report two county road crashes with only property damage. On a curve 14 miles east of Bloomfield, John William Lane and Morris D. Davis sideswiped, causing about 100 and 225 dollars in damage. A second crash near Newark involved Kenneth Stevens and Jim Michael on a blind curve with no injuries. No tickets were issued.
