Senate hears bid to expand air power with more B52 wings
Under questioning, Senate armed services subcommittee heard Gen Twining recommend the Air Force build toward 17 heavy bomber wings by 1960. The 1953 administration plan envisions 11 wings, with about 45 B52 jets per wing, implying ~300 additional bombers at roughly $2.4 billion. A lodge meeting follows tonight at 7:30 for Linton Lodge No. 560 F and AM.

Twining Urges Half Increase in Intercontinental Air Power
Air Force chief Gen. Nathan F. Twining called for a 50 percent boost in intercontinental striking power to counter Soviet air strength. Air Force Secretary Donald A. Quarles released the proposal, noting no decision had been made. The disclosure emerged as Senate House conferees debated the Air Force budget and Democrats aimed to preserve most of the administration’s increase.
