The 43 year old Fort Wayne attorney who directed prosecutions in DOJ won the nomination on a single ballot with 1 453 votes. Rep Andrew Jacobs and Notre Dame chemist Charles C Price trailed. Campbell pledged a fight campaign and rejected Communist support. Price emerged as a notable development in the convention results.
