Kenneth Kline starred for Switz City with a five field chances and a bases loaded homer.
An entomologist describes the potato flea beetle as a small black pest that pierces potato foliage and damages tomato and eggplant plants. It measures about the size of a pin head. Controls include Bordeaux mixture with arsenate of lead and copper lime dust with arsenate of lead as per Purdue recommendations.

Berlin June 28. Nazi Germany opened the International Chamber of Commerce congress with vows to take direct action in any future Spanish crisis and to pursue colonial aims until satisfied. Col. Gen. Hermann Goering welcomed 1,600 delegates from 40 nations, asserting Germany will press colonial questions to fulfill its desires.
Linton Metropolitan Lodge No. 193 will confer third rank degrees at its meeting. All members are urged to attend. Ice cream and cake refreshments will be served.
The Linton high school band will hold a practice session at 6 30 p m Wednesday at the school building. All members should be present according to today’s announcement.
Hearings are scheduled in Linton for 3 charges against Greene County Democratic officials. The three meetings last week formed the basis, with 84 precinct committeemen and 53 precinct committeewomen at Bloomfield and 84 at Linton. The charges allege duty failure and cooperation failures with the Greene County Democratic central committee.
Indianapolis Indiana June 238. The Works Progress Administration moves to drop 2300 project workers and consolidate the state headquarters and six district offices including Marion county and divisions in South Bend Fort Wayne Lafayette New Albany and Evansville to cut operating expenses.
Clarence Calvert of Worthington earned a certificate of proficiency in corn judging after the Indiana 4-H club roundup at Purdue University in Lafayette. Only eleven certificates were awarded among the judging contest participants. Clarence is the son of Roscoe Calvert, a longtime 5-acre corn project participant in Greene County.
Mr and Mrs Harry Sun of Detroit announce the birth of an eight and one half pound son Daniel. Mrs Sun formerly Miss Lucille Purcell daughter of Mr and Mrs Ebert Purcell of Linton. Both mother and new arrival are doing nicely.
President Roosevelt signed the bill extending the Civilian Conservation Corps to June 1939 40 and sent Congress an estimate of 350 million dollars needed for the 1938 fiscal year. Congress approved a three year extension and rejected permanent status.
Frank Burch severely injured after scaffold collapse at the Dr Ben Raney house on East Vincennes street. Shirley Anderson and Clyde Bedwell suffer facial and knee injuries, while Arley Wymer escapes harm. Contractor William Anderson cites thirty years without an accident as shock.
Steve Stalcup was appointed as pro tem secretary of the Greater Linton club replacing ill Billy F Cooper. Stalcup, a former state highway district road supervisor, is known in Greene and surrounding counties and began his duties this morning.
Richard Hasler of Newberry, aged 13, won the fourth all expenses paid trip to Detroit Michigan and Canada in the Linton Daily Citizen Indianapolis News circulation campaign. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hasler and will join Newberry High School as a freshman this fall.
In Cleveland Gov Townsend and officials of Inland Steel and Youngstown Sheet & Tube discuss a possible settlement as East Chicago mills appear not to reopen. Hutson reports no open plants tomorrow based on current information after talks with John L. Lewis and Frances Perkins.
Union leaders in Ohio and Pennsylvania say workers return to mills amid alleged coercive tactics by company officials, militia and state troops, vowing to sustain the seven state steel strike until four struck plants sign new contracts. Mill reopenings in Youngstown and Johnstown are reported as picket lines thin in Mahoning Valley.
Silver dollar cart wheels return as CCC commanders pay enrollees in silver. Enrollees dislike the plan while tailors welcome the extra wear on pockets.
Mr and Mrs Hallie Goodman and their sons Charles Ray and Billie Joe join Mrs Louise Woodward and daughter Waneta for a Saturday visit with Mrs Ida Bedwell and daughter in Jasonville.
Conferees on the 1.5 billion relief appropriation bill announce they have reached agreement and hope to report to the houses today to expedite passage to the White House. The accord retains the Hayden amendment extending the Public Works Administration for two years and continuing the PWA revolving fund while reducing total PWA expenditures from 367 million to 359 million.
The house flood control committee approved a revised bill authorizing 24,877,000 dollars for levees floodwalls and drainage structures in the Ohio river basin. The measure was offered by Will M. Whittington a Mississippi Democrat and reflects changes after talks with President Roosevelt.
