Forest fires cause heavy loss in Indiana forests
A five month period saw 8,667 acres and more than $20,000 in reported value of timber burned across Indiana. Between January 1 and June 1 there were 218 fires with brush and debris causing 128 incidents. 20 incendiary, 12 careless smokers, 4 campers, 4 lumbermen. Economic losses in 1935 totaled $52,751, with more fire towers being added to protect over two million acres, mainly privately owned.

Indianapolis June 24. Finalists for the fourth annual state softball championship will be played at the Indiana State Fair. Sponsors are the Indiana Recreational Association and the WPA recreation division. A new infield diamond and lights for night play will be built at the race track. Regional finals Aug 29-30 across eight centers, with 32 sectional tournaments and over 700 teams. Sites to be announced July 1. Last year drew 476 teams.

Mission to Treat 1000 Miles of State Highways This Year
James D. Ady, chairman, announced a program to resurface about 2p¢ miles of state highways and oil roughly 900 miles of gravel or stone highways.
