The House approved a 45.1 billion dollar defense funding bill for the Army Navy and Air Force by a 407 to 0 vote sending it to the Senate. Republicans faulted President Johnson for understated needs while Democrats said more money would be needed later.
A brief rain event in Indiana did little to end a three week dry spell. South Bend Evansville Vincennes Terre Haute Shoals and Newberry received measurable rainfall while Indianapolis saw only a trace. Temperatures should stay pleasant through Friday with high 70s to 80s and overnight lows 50s to 60s. Saturday looks sunny and warmer.
Indiana Fraternal Order of Police endorses opposing any 1967 Legislature move to abolish the death penalty. The group also backed a state merit system for officers. Elmer White named to succeed Grant Crabtree as central-division director. other officers reelected. Four Armco Steel employees were killed and six injured when a thunderstorm struck the Armco Park Country Club course near Butler Pennsylvania. The dead were John Katrych 52 Anderw Dobda 46 Allen C Pollock 51 and Eugene S Horan 55. The event occurred around 5 30 p m on the 16th hole with 150 workers on site.
Horace Clevenger aged 70 escaped injury after colliding with a parked car on H Street near Sixth Street in Linton at 8 20 a m The vehicle owned by Jack Wheeler Ford Co of Linton leased to Ralph Barnard was moved about 10 feet onto a lawn The other car suffered about 400 dollars in damage and the parked vehicle over 1500 dollars The incident is under investigation by the Linton Police Department

The pilot Marilyn Ann Mc Garry of Riverdale Illinois escaped with minor injuries after a small plane crashed into a corn field east of Monticello in a Les Paschen farm area. She was treated and released after stating she overshot a landing strip while returning to Hammond from Streator via Kankakee. Damages were about $6000.
