Bloomfield Man Expires Suddenly at State Park Pool

Barton Enos Wonder 39 of Bloomfield died from a heart attack while swimming at McCormick's Creek state park Spencer. Coroner Dr. Donald S. Blackwell ruled the death a heart attack. Survived by widow Margaret and five children, he worked for Indiana State Highway Department. formerly with Public Service Co of Indiana. Crowe Completes Supply Specialist Course at Fort Leonard Wood

Army Pvt. Charles E. Crowe of Jasonville Indiana graduated from the supply specialist course at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. He entered the army last February and received basic training there. The 24 year old is a 1956 graduate of Upper Iowa University.

Truck Crash Kills Jasonville Man in Flaming Accident

Jasonville resident Raymond Lee Jr. 26 died instantly when his milk truck collided with a bridge abutment on state road 246 near Lewis. An investigation by Dr. Denzil Ferguson attributed the fatal accident to possible driver fatigue. The body burned in the vehicle as fire crews removed it. Lee is survived by parents, a widow, three children, siblings, and a grandmother. Funeral arrangements were set by McClanahan Funeral Home of Jasonville.

Temperatures eased toward the cool side in Indiana with rainfall exceeding one inch in parts. West Baden led with 1.66 inches, Evansville 1.05, while the north saw little precipitation. Highs ranged 72 to 80, lows 57 to 64, with a warming trend to 85 by Tuesday and a chance of showers Thursday or Friday.

Atomic Energy Commission tops 50 kiloton blast at Frenchman’s Flat

The Atomic Energy Commission detonated the fifth and largest test of its 20 shot summer program at Frenchman’s Flat Nevada. The 50 kiloton blast, set off 700 feet above ground, produced a brilliant white flash bright enough to blind downtown Las Vegas and studied protective clothing for troops and civilians and food irradiation.

Greene circuit court settles multiple civil and criminal actions

In Bloomfield Greene circuit court two criminal actions and several civil cases were heard. Encyclopedia Britannica Inc. won 93.46 plus costs from Ryman and Hazel McDonald, Paul Astronedes won 3386.51 principal 453.03 interest and 14.00 costs against Robert KR. George, and various divorce support orders were issued or continued including $10 weekly support and attorney fees. Jacob Ruth pled guilty to trespass and was fined plus 60 days at the state farm. The case State vs Kenneth Bays set arraignment for July 20.

Tragic Collision Kills Chester Jackson in Indiana

Chester Jackson aged 29 of Linton dies at a crossing ten miles northwest of Terre Haute when a mine train strikes his auto. Dick Harper of Terre Haute injured, both men en route to work for Foradori Trucking and Excavation. Hunter, the mine train engineer, stopped and backed to the scene. Survivors include Ervin and Mary Jackson and Pearl Karns. Funeral plans pending.

Minnesota Flood Deepens Loss Four Drown Near Hastings

Floodwaters from the Minnesota Mississippi tributary swelled rivers and forced about 25 families to flee along the Crow. Four people drowned Sunday when a rescue attempt failed as their boat capsized near Hastings. two teens Anton Lynn and Wayne Frendrdrich and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Lovejoy. Jeanette Kaiser swam to safety with a life jacket. The Mississippi crest was forecast at 15 feet 6 inches above flood stage at St. Paul by Wednesday. North Dakota Knife and Cannonball rivers also overflowed, flooding thousands of acres. Cooler air was expected to bring relief later, with scattered severe thunderstorms observed from Nashville to the upper Great Lakes.

Spanish War Vet Dies at 78 in Jasonville

Tilman A. Hunter of Jasonville route one died at his home at 3:00 AM after six months of declining health. Funeral services were held at McClanahan Funeral Home in Jasonville with Rev. Lloyd Miller officiating and burial in Grandview cemetery Bloom. Hunter led the Linton David C. Wiles camp of the United Spanish War Veterans and belonged to the Jasonville Christian Church. He was born near Bloomfield June 10, 1879 and previously worked at a Westphalia garage before moving to Jasonville ten years ago. Survived by widow Gertrude, four brothers Rufus Orval and Clayton and Elmo, and sister Daisy Barlow.

Mrs. Lottie Burklin Franklin of Linton, born August 29, 1878 in Rock Island City Missouri, died at 9:50 p.m. Sunday at her home 389 I Street Southwest after failing health since 1955. Carlton of Linton, sons Elmer and Kenneth Franklin of Linton, a brother Thomas Burklin of Los Angeles, and sisters Mrs. John Booker and Mrs. Eliza Walton of Linton.
