Schricker Jenner Senate fight colors Indiana politics
Indiana readers watch the Schricker Jenner Senate race as a centerpiece event amid Eisenhower Taft Republican clashes. Schricker, 72, reluctant to leave public life, seeks a six year term while Jenner lobbies the GOP with strong opposition to Truman era policies. Jenner won a 1944 short term and a 1946 full term renomination, majorities and party machinery shifts noted.

Watkins Seen As Democrat Choice Today
Indiana Democrats, heated by battles for four state ticket nominations, convened at the Fairgrounds Coliseum with Lt. Gov. John A. Watkins poised as the organization’s choice for governor. Gov. Schricker and seven other candidates ran unopposed for spots on the 12 place ticket. Delegates from Lake and Marion counties allegedly sought a deal to back Watkins’ rival B. Howard Caughran for secretary of state, while Callahan opposed Wilson in that race. Schricker dominates the party’s vote totals and looms large in shaping Indiana’s 1948 Democratic ticket.
