Nettie Alice Herring 62 died at her sister's home south of Linton after a yearlong illness due to heart disease. She was born Nettie Kelley and survived by three sons Clyde Fred and Ralph and three sisters Isabell Chafey Charlotte Chafey Mammie Laughlin. Funeral service held Tuesday at Switz City Baptist Church with Davidson Funeral home Lyons in charge. community softball league planning draws local interest with about eight teams expected. meeting set 5:30 Tuesday at the Linton recreation office.
Mrs Edward Page of Linton R 3 was taken to Union hospital in Terre Haute Sunday afternoon where she underwent a major operation at 9 o'clock this morning. A report of her condition has not been received.
WPA labor action from Brazil Indiana saw several truckloads of workers leave to picket a railroad construction site near Greencastle where 100 black employees labored. The original 400 man crew walked out for higher pay and shorter hours as a mass meeting led by Lawrence Garrigus of the Indiana Workers Alliance organized the protest after 60 WPA workers were fired.

Mrs. Martha L. Marshall of the Long Chapel community near Dugger died at 3 30 this morning after a six day illness. She was survived by her husband William, a daughter Hosea Snow Sullivan Indiana, a son Henry Cass, a sister Mary E. Ring Sullivan, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 pm Wednesday at Long Chapel church with Rev. McBride officiating. Burial follows in Long Chapel cemetery. Aikin Funeral Home of Dugger in charge.

Mrs Mary Waymier 78 widow of William Waymier died at her Dugger area home after a stroke Saturday afternoon. She had lived in the Dugger community thirty years and was a member of the Dugger M E church. Surviving are children Charles Linton Criss Nellie Lena a sister Miss Tillie Talcamier a brother William Talemier nineteen grandchildren four great grandchildren. Funeral at Dugger M E church at 2 o'clock this afternoon with Rev Iee officiating. Burial in Dugger cemetery.
Andy Combs, life sentence for first degree murder in Greene county was denied parole by the state clemency commission. Combs shot neighbor Frank Baker after a dispute over a construction project, leading to his 1922 Greene circuit court conviction in Indianapolis.
