Greene County sheriff investigates burglary at the Jerry Mitchell residence in rural Jasonville. Garage break in and attempt to steal a CD radio noted. Two autos were vandalized.
Indiana FFA named Mike Morehouse of Fairfield 1977 Star Farmer and Robert Rietveld of Kouts 1977 Star Agribusinessman. Morehouse and Rietveld are sons of local residents, receiving top awards at a Wednesday ceremony.
A singing engagement for Anita Bryant at the State Bar of Texas convention in Houston has escalated into a clash between antihomosexual crusaders and gay rights protesters. If weather allows, demonstrators will march past the hotel during her performance while Rev. Joe West of San Antonio plans a downtown rally opposing homosexuals.
The National Weather Service explains that a lack of moisture and cloud movement keeps rain from forming. A 30 day outlook predicts below median rainfall statewide, with above normal temperatures and soil moisture concerns, and a July 1 zone reclassification moving several counties into new forecast zones for better temperature and weather condition grouping.
President Carter said he is committed to a national health insurance plan early next year and urged supporters to focus now on containing rising medical costs. Dissenters Marshall and Brennan warned the decision undermines religious diversity and could raise welfare costs for worshippers.
American journalist Robert Toth said the KGB informed him he was no longer needed and could leave the Soviet Union. He and his family plan to depart Moscow Friday after two years in the capital following hours of questioning about contacts with Soviet dissidents and scientists.
Senate subcommittee led by John Stennis cuts eight water projects from a 10.5 billion public works package, including three in Colorado, as Carter seeks to veto avoidances.
