The Mine Run writer is on vacation and the column will be discontinued for about two weeks. Mine Run will resume in the Daily Citizen on about June 28.
A sunny weekend in Indiana saw five drownings including three boys under 10. Stephen Nowakowski 19 of Chicago died waterskiing at Cedar Lake after panicking while swimming toward skis. Darrell Pearson 34 of Indianapolis drowned crossing Tidewell Lake near Mooresville. Weekist Hartfield 19 fell from a Crown Point pier into Francher Lake. Preston Greene 9 of Frankfort died in the Frankfort Municipal Pool. Scott Haugen 5 of Danville Illinois drowned in Merom Pool near Sullivan after wandering from parents.
Forecasters predict pleasant weather for Indiana with near normal highs in the 80s and overnight lows in the 50s and 60s. The five day period ends Saturday with mostly sunny conditions until midweek then partly cloudy skies and up to three fourths inch of rain late in the week. Sunday temperatures linger in the 70s while Evansville hits 86, and overnight dips reach the 48 to 54 range across South Bend Fort Wayne Lafayette and Evansville.
Two weekend crashes reported in Greene County. At 10 15 p m Friday on Kwy 67 near Eel River bridge Edgar W Krause 42 West Bend Wisconsin turned to avoid a southbound truck and plunged down an embankment causing about 150 dollars damage Krause uninjured no arrest. A second crash occurred at 11 40 p m Friday on Scotland Crane road one mile south of Scotland a parked Wayne Jackson Newberry half ton truck was scraped by a passing car which did not stop minor damage and authorities seek the driver of the car.
The Peoples Trust Co. branch in Switz City was broken into on Sunday. FBI and county authorities investigate but no theft is suspected.
Charles Shuee of Greencastle was elected Seventh District coordinator by the state committee in Terre Haute. The new district includes Warren, Fountain, Vermillion, Parke, Putnam, Vigo, Clay, Owen, Sullivan, Greene, Davis, Monroe and Brown counties.
Nearly a dozen Negro parents occupied fourth grade seats at Christopher Gibson School in Dorchester Boston to protest the discharge of Jonathan Kozel Harvard graduate and Rhodes scholar. A dozen police were summoned as authorities said the act violated trespassing laws and disrupted a classroom.
Jasonville Mayor Gene Inman was fined about 80 dollars in Wright Township Justice of the Peace Court after pleading guilty to reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. The 90 day license suspension recommendation was issued by Justice of the Peace Sam Rotman Jr.
Dagbreek newspaper from Johannesburg comments on Britain naming the Beatles to the Order of the British Empire, calling it a sign of decline in the standards of a once great empire.
In Vincennes Indiana sheriff said two Chicago youths and the husband of murdered Marilyn McLemore will undergo lie detector tests in Indianapolis. Authorities allege robbery motive as wallet with about $100 missing. McLemore and a 2 year old son were in a car when shot. suspects aged 19 and 22 held at a roadblock nearby.
The Federal Trade Commission plans a national campaign against consumer fraud with state attorneys general. Chairman Paul Dixon says a new chief legal official will coordinate intergovernmental cooperation, estimated at 20000 dollars yearly. Senator Harrison Williams endorses the plan as a major consumer protection step.
Sybil Burton 36 and Jordan Christopher 24 wed in a brief civil ceremony. The couple hosted a party at Arthur discotheque on Manhattan’s East Side with guests including Sen Javits and Mike Nichols. Christopher leads The Wild Ones who perform at Arthur.

Navy barge to haul 150 tons of World War I artillery shells from marshland near the Charleston Army Depot eight miles north of Charleston. Shells, still armed with usable fuses, are being hosed down and guarded as demolition experts prepare disposal at sea within a week to 10 days. The shells were dumped in the late 1930s by ordnance workers.
A combat ready U S Army paratroop battalion moved near Dong Xoai to start offensive operations at Phuoc Vinh. South Viet Nam forms a 10 member military leadership committee led by Maj Gen Nguyen Van Thieu after the government reshuffle. Five days of fighting around Dong Xoai yield about 2000 casualties with 225 guerillas killed by Navy air strikes. seven Americans killed and 11 missing, fifteen wounded.
Dr. Martin Buber, Israel's leading philosopher and theologian, lay in state at Hebrew University as thousands paid homage. The 87 year old, bedridden after leg surgery, died near Jerusalem amid stalled Israel Arab ties. Premier Levi Eshkol to give a special funeral eulogy.
Russian aircraft salesman Vitaly T. Vasin told the Le Bourget air show that the Soviet Union is ready to sell airliners and helicopters to Western customers for cash or on credit, but no orders have been placed yet.

Mayor Daley hails the reception as historic while NAACP withdraws from street demonstrations and others plan to march to spotlight education issues. VP Humphreys attends the reception.
The Berlin wall shuts at midnight ending the 1964 visiting agreement between West Berlin and East Germany. Families fear permanent separation while Mayor Brandt vows to pursue new terms for Christmas visits, amid Communist objections and a tense political backdrop. 2.5 million West Berliners used passes during four visiting periods.
Dr Robert S Dietz of the U S Coast and Geodetic Survey says Russia is now second to the United States in marine sciences with a program about one half to two thirds the size of America s Dietz visited Russia last fall with other American oceanographers and expects a reciprocal Soviet visit possibly this fall
