Annual Radio Auction Supports Linton Civitan Club

The Linton Civitan Club hosts a weeklong radio auction on WBTO AM from 6 to 8 p.m. each evening with county merchants donating merchandise to highest bidders. Bid calls are 847-2231. The Linton Elks Lodge holds a Flag Day program on the Elks lawn at 6 30 p.m. Tuesday, invitation extended to the public.

James Earl Ray captured after 54 hour escape bid

James Earl Ray, the confessed King killer, was found hiding under leaves in the Cumberland Mountains after a 54 hour escape. Donald Ray Caylor was arrested in Oak Ridge during the manhunt. Donald Shelton remained at large nearby as bloodhounds closed in. Ray and Caylor were returned to Brushy Mountain State Prison.

Paul Fry honored for long service at Greene County Hospital

Paul Fry and Gene Falk, retiring Greene County General Hospital Board members, were honored at a hospital reception. Judge Edwin B. Long presented Fry with a framed letter from judges and commended him on 49 years of service, including two building expansions and the Lone Tree Road hospital. Maynard Baggio and Judge David Johnson praised Fry and Falk with decor and gifts.
