London June 13 The U S Air Force abandoned the search today for four crewmen missing in the crash of a super fortress in the North Sea last Wednesday.
Misses Virginia Gomer and Lucille Adler of Longmont Colorado visit in Linton staying with Mrs Fernand Duvivier Jr. and meeting Gomer’s sister in the community.
The Agriculture Department warned that heavy wind erosion could strike Great Plains farms in 1951 if ground cover is not established this summer. Erosion has spread in central and southern plains this spring for a second year, prompting advice to seed feed crops in moisture-rich lands to create protective cover.

Rev. L. B. Richardson of Ft. Wayne will speak at 7 30 tonight at the Assembly of God church in the city. He is treasurer of the Indiana district Assemblies of God. This will be his first time speaking locally. The youth group sponsors the meeting and invites the public.
Paris reports indicate two French aircraft crashes leave sixty dead or missing. An Air France C 54 plummeted into the Persian Gulf near Bahrain with 50 aboard, 44 presumed drowned or dead. 6 rescued and 5 bodies recovered, 39 still missing. A second military plane with 16 aboard vanished en route Madagascar, none expected to survive. the four engine transport carried 43 passengers and seven crew, mostly French. Helicopters and ships search for survivors as officials investigate cause.
Chicago June 13 Lincoln Park officials report Bushman the 550 pound gorilla, aged 22, showing improvement after a heart attack and arthritis. He rallied for crowds and enjoyed a convalescent diet of cherries lettuce bananas and other fruits while zoo staff monitor his heart medicine.
Mr and Mrs James C Cunningham announce the birth of their son Michael Raye born June 9 at Mary Sherman hospital Sullivan. He weighed 9 pounds 51 ounces and joins the family in Sullivan.
Edith Arthur was granted a divorce from Wilkey Arthur in the Greene circuit court at Bloomfield today.
United Press reports strikes cripple New York World Telegram and Sun and CBS shadowing NBC telecasts. Milk drivers walkouts continue in Washington and Pittsburgh while NY Police enforce a no picketing order at Norristown ENKA Rayon Mill. Newsrooms brace as 540 guild members strike for higher wages and better benefits.
The Cierva Air Horse built to carry 24 passengers crashed at Southampton airport on a test flight. Killed were Squadron Leader Alan Marsh Cierva manager and chief test pilot, Squadron Leader F J Cable chief rotary test pilot, and Joe Unsworth Cierva flight engineer. Witnesses reported a rotor broke off and the craft plunged then burst into flames on impact.
Freddie Klusmeier daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Klusmeier captured Reserve Champion at Indiana Junior horse show in Indianapolis. She won first in the pleasure class and first in the Ladies five gaited class earning trophies and blue ribbons. She placed second in open five gaited, fourth in three gaited stake and sixth in horsemanship while receiving ribbons for her achievements. She is twelve years old.
Greene County farmers are invited to a Bedford field meeting at the Purdue university farm on Friday afternoon June 16. Tours begin at 1 00 p m by automobile in small groups guided by county agents with Purdue staff discussing work at each stop.
The Junior Department of the First Christian Church will hold an outing at Shakamak State Park Thursday. Members should arrive at the church by 8:30 and bring a lunch. transportation will be provided.
Raymond H. Heitman 48 lifelong Linton resident died at home about 4 AM He was born September 17 1901 Greene County son of William and Elizabeth Heitman reared by John N and Mary Gastineau He was a member of Saron Reformed Church He survived by four cousins Funeral services at Welch and Cornett Funeral Home Thursday at 2 PM with Rev H Raymond Voss officiating burial in Fairview Cemetery.
Two residents of Linton Indiana were among about 662 seniors and graduates at Butler University's 95th commencement on the Fairview campus. Degrees were conferred by President M O Ross with Dr David Henry of Wayne University delivering the address. James B McGriffin and James Camden Smith earned Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
Pfe. Paul H. Steele of Linton is a member of the Caisson baseball team in the First Infantry division overseas. The third baseman and hitter has built a wide reputation and helped the team’s success. He graduated from Linton-Stockton High School in 1943 and attended Indiana University where he played on the IU baseball team.
In Covington Indiana a 39 year old Mary Osborn was found guilty of first degree murder for poisoning her husband with arsenic after a claimed adulterous arrangement with Robert Tibbetts. In Indianapolis Sullivan Circuit Judge Norval K Harris was found guilty of contempt of the Indiana Supreme Court for disobeying orders to curb prosecutorial appointments, with sentencing set for June 21.
The Indianapolis weather bureau issued a five day outlook with cool showers across Indiana. Temperatures expected to run two to five degrees above normal with northern highs near 82 and southern around 86. Rainfall likely from one inch in the north to less than half an inch in the south, with showers tomorrow and Thursday in the north and Thursday and Friday in the south.

Farmers with no wheat planted in 1948 49 or 50 may apply for a 1951 wheat acreage allotment. Applications must be written to the county PMA committee by July 1 1950 and include evidence the land is suitable for wheat and the operator is predominantly dependent on farming. Forms are available at the Bloomfield county PMA office.
