Officials study death and kidnapping in Kentucky case
Officials investigated the death of a government witness in Harlan county and the alleged kidnapping of another. The incidents occurred near the federal courthouse where forty four persons and fifteen coal companies are on trial for conspiring to deprive workers of rights under the Wagner act. A miner named Smithers was killed in Gulston, five miles from Harlan, while John Isom reported being kidnapped in Cumberland before escaping. Isom had testified earlier about intimidation linked to the case.
