Extension of Draft Appears Certain
A four year extension of the draft seems likely to pass, with the House already approving the measure and the Senate Armed Services Committee starting hearings. A two year doctor draft extension faces opposition and is sidetracked by the House Rules Committee and strong Senate dissent. Medical and dental groups argue regular draft suffices and that a doctor draft is discriminatory, while the military says doctors and dentists are needed for proper care.
