Army Engineers Testify on Wabash Threat to New Harmony Bridge
Army engineers testified that the Wabash River could destroy or sever the New Harmony bridge in Southern Indiana without protection. Col. R. E. Smyser Jr. endorsed a 405000 appropriation for a project totaling 737900 to shield the bridge and west approach, aiming for completion next November. The plan cites shifting bends endangering the right bank and bridge integrity, with the river potentially looping behind the ridge if not restrained.
