Linton Common Council awarded the purchase at a special meeting Tuesday night. The bid of $5,640.48 for a 1977 one ton Ford with a nine foot bed and hoist was the only bid received.
The Jasonville Municipal Gas Utility petitions the Public Service Commission for a .050 per thousand cubic feet price increase on natural gas. The rise reflects higher gas costs from supplier Texas Gas Transmission Corp and would take effect in the next practical consumption period after approval, adding .050 cents monthly for a 1 000 cubic feet per month customer.
Showers and thunderstorms continued to dominate Indiana today with forecasts calling for continued unsettled conditions through Thursday. The National Weather Service noted a chance of isolated severe storms this afternoon and tonight in northern Indiana, while periods of showers were observed Tuesday and no excessive rainfall was reported. Partly cloudy skies are expected Friday and Saturday.
Four firemen were overcome by fumes while battling a blaze at the Indiana Rockwool plant in Alexandria on Monday night. The fire caused extensive damage and about 30 workers fled the insulation factory. none were injured. Treated at Anderson hospital were Ermal Allen Jr Brian Etchison Roger Bennett and Larry Womack.
The city of Muncie suffered a sick-in strike by municipal workers represented by the Teamsters Union. More than 100 of 400 workers called in sick starting with the 11 p.m. shift, cancelling trash pickups for the day while police and firemen did not participate.
