Six Negroes Jailed After City Prison Overcrowding

Saturday night police crowded the city jail with six Negroes and three White suspects from the race track raid on a Ford coupe stolen in Indianapolis and brought toward the Linton auto races. John Lucas the only colored man held. others released or awaiting transfer. Anny Bordeaux sought for shooting husband. taken to county jail at Bloomfield due to jail crowding. Robert Dunning paid a $40.80 fine after pleading intoxication. John Sloan raided home for home brew but not jailed. Joe Beechler escaped serious harm when his car burned near McFadden's store and later pled guilty with a $51 total fine.

Glendora and Peerless mines resume hoisting today

Sullivan July 26 The Glendora and Peerless mines resumed hoisting today after idle periods of about three months and two weeks respectively. The resumption will restore hundreds of miners to work and boost Sullivan business as large mine payrolls are a key county factor. More mines that had operated irregularly or shut down are expected to restart soon.
