In Sydney Nova Scotia on July 25 American sailors from the United States fleet swamped local bars but ordered no water. Despite ample access to drink, little drunkenness was reported as the public reacted to Australia’s liquor laws. Posters proclaimed Beer is thicker than water and cartoons mocked the sailors’ reverence for beer.
