Indiana Supreme Court hands down three notable cases. Ira Holmes and Ira M. Holmes contesting for Indianapolis mayoralty, E. S. Shumaker and D. C. Stephenson lose appeals. Shumaker avoids higher penalty on contempt. Stephenson’s habeas corpus appeal seeks release from Michigan City prison.
In Monticello Kentucky on July 21 W R Wright 55 shot and killed his wife Mary 53 and two sons Porter 24 and Jessie 20 after a timber dispute with his elderly mother nearby. He also wounded his daughter Lexie 18 who escaped. Neighbor Vight Hill restrained him until officers arrived and Wright awaits an examining trial.
Columbia City, Ind., July 21. Mrs. A. J. Schrieber, 64, of near this city, hanged herself in a barn late yesterday. A note left by Mrs. Schrieber said her nerves had gotten the best of her. She was a native of New Salem.
United Press Dispatch from New York reports eleven people were injured when a smoking car on a Long Island commuter train ran off an open draw bridge at Hammels and fell into Jamaica Bay. The car sank in mud but most of it stayed above water. firemen checked for trapped passengers.
Bandits escaped with 4600 dollars from Bosch Magneto Company in Long Island City and 6000 dollars from Harvey Spring Co offices in Racine Wisconsin.
Nell Peck of Indianapolis returned to Springfield Ohio to answer kidnapping charges involving her 15 year old daughter Constance from the aunt Ella Williams. Peck’s husband Charles and her 17 year old son were held as witnesses. Williams said Constance and another child were placed in her custody 14 years ago after a divorce. The girl was kidnapped Thursday.
United Press notes aviator John H. Mears crossed Seattle in the City of New York at 4 30 am July 21 on his round the world flight. He headed east after a brief Spokane stop and aims to reach New York by noon Sunday to set a new world record of 22 1 2 days for circling the globe.
United Press Dispatch reports Detroit July 21 George Souder racing driver who was seriously hurt last Sunday is greatly improved but still has spells of unconsciousness. Doctors note a fractured arm and concussion of the brain from X rays obtained at Highland Park hospital.
Clinton Indiana July 21 William Groves and five children went to Indianapolis yesterday to take the Pasteur treatment for rabies after exposure to a pet rat terrier that developed rabies. None were bitten but the dog played with them and likely licked hands and arms, prompting precautionary treatment.
Indianapolis July 21 The Public Service Commission denied requests by Ray Stevenson for operation of motor bus routes from Vincennes to Washington and from Terre Haute to Crawfordsville in an action issued yesterday.
Vincennes and Mt Carmel will host new Wabash River bridges after Illinois and Indiana reached a funding and construction agreement. Herbert Hoover, campaigning in Montello Nevada, refused to kiss a baby for publication and said the tactic would be beneath his dignity. A mother asked to hold the infant for a photo, and Hoover complied with the request to hold the baby.

Government officials blame religious fanaticism for the crime as speakers threaten party leader Luis Morones, cabinet minister and Obregon’s bitter political enemy.

In Superstition Works near Mounds Illinois villagers used the clothing of 22 year old John Towner, drowned July 4, by placing his shirt on the water. The shirt floated then sank and divers later located the body on the pond bottom with the shirt spread over it.
In Spring Valley Illinois Harold Cramer of Bath and Thomas Parker of Chicago were instantly killed when struck by lightning aboard a flatboat during a survey for the deep waterways project. Five other men aboard survived the incident yesterday.
