Local write up recalls Muirs Lake near Howesville named for William Muir, with family ties to Frank and Elmer Peavey and historical picnicking and a 52 pound catfish. Also notes birthday cards for Edwin Lam in Reno and residents recounting cigar factory imagery, census notes, and a Cape Canaveral joke about women on the moon.
Weatherford Texas residents complete a railroad museum in the old Santa Fe depot. Railfan Club members have spent about 1000 hours to install tracks and prepare space for rolling stock and display relics from the Southwest’s railroading history.
Governor Welsh announced a $268.3 million two year Indiana highway program constructing 540 miles of new roads and 294 bridges. The plan includes 163 miles of interstate routes 213 miles of primary roads 52 miles of urban roads and 112 miles of secondary roads. It adds to $21.6 million already funded for 88 miles and 49 bridges in spring bid sets.
Former Linton resident Mrs. Etta B. Weller Jessup 70 of Indianapolis died this morning in a nursing home. Born June 27, 1891, she was survived by a sister and a brother. Her body returns to Welch and Cornnett Funeral Home for viewing Friday afternoon with services Saturday at 2:00. Burial in Fairview cemetery.
Lt. James W. Azbell of the St Louis Corps Meteorological team at Red Stone Arsenal Alabama took part in an exercise sending a weather balloon to a record altitude of 107 636 feet. He is son of Mr and Mrs C W Razbell of Columbus Ohio and grandson of Mrs Dora Azbell and Mrs Stella Letsinger of Linton.
Warren White manager of the Linton IGA store will travel to Chicago next weekend to attend the International IGA convention at the Conrad Hilton hotel. About 7 000 IGA stores from the United States and Canada will be represented. He plans to return to Linton on Tuesday.
City Council votes to remove evergreen trees from the parkway between A and G streets northeast on Tenth Street. Residents signed the petition citing misshapen diseased trees that have overhung the road. The council also moves to negotiate sale or lease of adjoining land to Horace T. Irish and discusses a Dyna-Fog spraying machine for anti fly and anti mosquito work. Routine bills paid and funds moved.

Sullivan man George Wallisa faces trial on hog theft charges. He and co defendant Gayle Wilson allegedly stole and butchered two hogs from Golden Cox of Turman township. Wilson pled guilty, received a one year suspended sentence, later violated it and was sent to the Penal Farm. suspension revoked after a tavern fight. The court to rule Friday.
Final arrangements for Greene county Red Cross swimming classes at Shakamak state park were announced by Mrs Don Winters. Lessons run 8 to 10 each morning for two weeks starting Monday July 17. Bus transport from Linton to Shakamak departs 7 15 a m from Johnson Feed store lot. Admission money requested. Enrollment blanks available at the Linton Daily Citizen office and due by 5 000 clock Friday evening July 14.

New officers of the Linton Eagles lodge will be installed at a 7:30 PM meeting at the local hall. Creel Robinson is slated to be installed as Worthy President. Members are urged to attend the special meeting.
