Beira Mozambique reports say the Portuguese steamship Save with 550 aboard ran aground on a sand bank 200 miles north of Beira during a storm. The forward hold cargo of gasoline and ammunition exploded as flames engulfed the vessel. Most dead were Africans. many victims reportedly drowned or burned. Drownings Sunday Take Lives of Three Indiana Residents
Three Indiana residents died Sunday in separate drowning incidents. Pier Ann Rhoades, 22 months, was found in a cattle tank on her father’s land near Angola. Billy Gray, 23, of Vincennes, drowned in the White River while aiding his wife. Howard Hart, 19, and Joy Huskins, 16, both from Cloverdale, drowned in a farm pond after Hart cramps and went under while swimming.
