Hazy hot and humid conditions persist through Wednesday with mid 70s overnight and mid 90s by day. Monday reached 92 with a low of 74 and a 78 degree morning. Continued heat and humidity expected for most of the week.

Indiana Pacers Telethon Reaches 8000 Ticket Goal

The Indiana Pacers telethon exceeded the 8000 tickets sales goal to sustain NBA investment. The event featured music recollections of past glory and a festive crowd contributing funds to keep the team alive in the league. An autopsy was scheduled in Indianapolis on an unidentified young woman found near Zionsville. The body showed no obvious wounds. she appeared dead several days earlier.

Visitors turned away as power fails at Field Museum Tut exhibit

About five thousand holiday visitors at Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History were turned away in temperatures over ninety degrees after a two hour power outage. Officials closed the Tut exhibit first, then the entire museum for the day.

Fourth of July parade draws large crowd despite smaller floats

The 1977 Fourth of July parade drew an unusually large crowd, with estimates near 40 000. Attendees praised the entries though there were fewer floats, and traffic headaches persisted at key intersections despite police and sheriff patrols. Neighbor Nick Sarris helped briefly clear South Main and Vincennes Street.

Parade draws 30000 in Linton Fourth of July jubilee

Linton residents and about 30000 visitors celebrated with a prominent parade, park gatherings, fireworks, and a busy midway at Humphreys Park. The Civitan Club float Symbols of Freedom won the Sweepstakes Award for the second year, with numerous other floats and local groups honored.

Panamanian hijacker surrenders after deadly bus spree

Luis Robinson, 26, a U S Navy enlisted man, hijacked a Vermont bound bus in New York City, killed the driver and a female passenger, wounded four, and held a dozen hostages at Kennedy Airport before surrendering after a 92 hour ordeal. He sought $6 million and a plane and said the plan came to him in a dream. He blamed mistreatment in the United States and problems with Navy life for the attack.
