Two Boys Die Racing Train At Evansville Crossing
Randall Hape 15 and his nephew Kevin Hape 10 of near Evansville were killed when their bicycles were struck by a Louisville & Nashville passenger train four miles southwest of Evansville as they tried to beat the train to a crossing. Engineer Orville Utley said the youths appeared to accelerate toward the crossing but attempted to stop at the last moment. the incident is treated as a traffic fatality under police guidelines since no motor vehicle was involved.

Linton mayor A. M. Risher announced that July 4 traffic to Humphreys park will use highway 54 only for entrance while both gateways may be used with traffic flowing north. Exiting cars must leave via E street. officials will direct traffic and no exits to highway 54. Parking arrangements include a tractor to aid motorists stuck in parking areas.
