Burglary Attempt at L and M School Ended in Damage
Burglars tried to force open a safe at L and M School last night breaking a window to enter. They damaged the vault and left through the front doors. Principal George Brown reported nothing missing this morning. The sheriff also probes theft at John Holmes cabin in Springville and Sam Neff’s claim of two cherry trees stripped.

Drownings at private Yorktown club claim third life
Tommy E. Johnston aged 33 of Muncie died after he and four companions climbed a fence at a private swim club east of Yorktown in Delaware County. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie around 5 a.m.

PSC approves city electric rate hike in Linton
The Indiana Public Service Commission approved a city electric rate increase for Linton in January and a gas rate rise earlier. The electric hike raises prices by about 30 percent, with gas up around 15 percent, effective on September and August bills respectively. Unemployment Rises as June Jobs Slip Cites 7.5% Rate
