Mrs Viola Jarman of Linton had major surgery yesterday. A son Terry Leon was born Thursday to Mrs Henrietta Storms of Linton route two. Mrs Minnie York of Worthington welcomed a son Gary Stephen born yesterday. Jerry Hardesty of Linton had a tonsillectomy today. Baker Mitchell of Linton admitted for medical treatment. Miss Dorothy Young of Lyons had a tonsillectomy today. Miss Betty Rogers of Jasonville dismissed last night. Quince Stewart of Worthington dismissed today. Miss Effie Hendricks of Linton transferred today to Methodist Hospital Indianapolis. Mrs Henrietta Stormess and baby were taken home today.
In Ada Oklahoma a customer searched all his pockets and then asked a friend for a nickel to buy a copy of the Ada Evening News. An employee said the man was not broke and they could not change his $1,000 bill.
General Dwight D. Eisenhower states in a letter to Leonard Finder that he will not seek or accept the U S presidential nomination under any circumstances. He calls his stance definite and positive and emphasizes military subordination to civil power as the reason for withdrawing from politics.
A Sullivan County to Greene County change of venue case opens in Bloomfield. John R. Owens seeks 20000 dollars from Marie Monroe after a collision with a truck. He claims damages for lost mining work time and medical bills as evidence is reviewed.
A two car head on collision in Knox Indiana last night killed Mrs. Percy Reynolds 40. Her husband was in serious condition in La Porte hospital. Harold Wentz 23 Knox drove the southbound car into Reynolds vehicle. Wentz and passenger Robert Vermillion 24 Knox had minor injuries.
Ernest South of Linton is reported to be in critical condition at the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. The brief item notes his serious health status and hospital care.
Mrs. Fred Wetzel, a former Jasonville resident, died Monday in VanLear Kentucky. Her brother-in-law Phil Wetzel of Linton reported the death and funeral details were not learned. She is survived by her husband three sons Richard at home Raymond of Jenkins Kentucky and Paul of VanLear two daughters Christina Stapleton at home and Pauline Myers of Texas and five grandchildren.

The state highway commission approved new signals and flasher beacons for Indiana intersections. Existing signals on Michigan Street in Plymouth will be replaced and synchronized with U S 30 and 31. New signals will go up in Mishawaka and South Bend areas with flasher beacons at several intersections including Nora Hartford City area and Berne.
A diagnostic Chest Clinic will be held Wednesday January 26 at the Freeman Greene County Hospital announced by the Greene County Tuberculosis Association. Appointments are being made by the Greene County health nurse at Bloomfield phone 299 and by the association's executive secretary at Linton phone 289 W.
Two marriage licenses were issued in the Greene circuit court Bloomfield. They were granted to Clarence Crynes and Wanda Lee Bland of Linton and Adell Emery Tibbett and Minnie Pearl Tibbett of Lyons.
Fred C. Long 82 of Highland township died at Freeman-Greene county hospital at 7 p m Thursday. He was born July 1865 in Fayette county and is survived only by his brother Edward Long who lived with him. A retired railroad worker and a member of the Worthington Masonic lodge, he will be buried Sunday at Calvertville Cemetery after funeral services at the Calvertville church. Body lies in state at Jenkins and Son funeral chapel, Bloomfield, until the service.
Fort Wayne judge grants a stay of execution for Ralph Lubaugh delaying the February 9 death sentence to April 2. The stay follows a writ of error coram nobis challenging his guilty plea and seeking a new trial, with prosecutors needing time to file replies. The matter was referred to state officials in Indianapolis and the circuit court.

Switz City Midgets defeated the Linton Miners 54 to 36 in the opening game of the Linton region of the Wabash Valley high school tournament. Miller led Switz City with seven field goals and four foul shots, Landis added 11 points, while Woolsey and Elkins contributed for Linton. Scotland and Lyons also won, setting up semifinals against Switz City and Scotland respectively.
