Ernest John Mahr was moved to Waupun state prison after pleading guilty to killing Ruth Ella Scott, 16, with an axe in Milwaukee. Municipal Judge Max W. Nohl sentenced him to life. He confessed entering the Scott home to rob, killed the girl to avoid being found, and attempted to assault the mother before she resisted and called for help. He cites discouraging letters from his district and elsewhere, expresses sympathy for workers removed due to funding shortages, and urges the WPA to restore those on its rolls who were let go unfairly.
Mrs. Lionel Ridlen reports from this city that Mrs. Andrew Wiseman of Glen dale California has died. The deceased will be buried in Willow Hill Illinois. Funeral services are set for 2 o clock Friday afternoon at Willow Hill.
James Henry Secrest known northwest of Lyons dies at 11 AM after several days illness. Survived by widow Flossie, two daughters Montell Tuttle and Lillian Luxton, two sons Quilla and Edgar D. Secrest, and siblings George Secrest, Mrs. John White, Mrs. George Soliday, Mrs. Harley Smith. Funeral 2 PM Friday at family home with Rev. Stude of Bedford. burial in Waggoner cemetery. Newkirk Funeral Home, Pleasantville, in charge.
Hospital report lists Mrs. Robert Stanley and baby of Jasonville dismissed. Mrs. William Haviland of Worthington rural route 2 returned home today. Mrs. Woodrow Geary of this city taken to her home this afternoon. Mrs. Clyde Reintjes dismissed from the hospital this afternoon.
In Greene circuit court Bloomfield the jury ruled against thirteen dismissed Washington fire department members seeking reinstatement and back salaries. The verdict found their appointments were temporary and that they waited too long to sue, leading to the appointment of new firefighters.

William Walker and James Haskell Stevens of Lawrence county are charged in Greene circuit court with auto banditry linked to auto theft. They already faced counts for stealing a car from Lowell Welch of Bloomfield on October 11 1938 and for stealing a second auto from Charles Hollars Jr of Swita City on December 26 1938, which wrecked in an eastern county accident. Both defendants protest innocence and are expected to plead not guilty.
In Houlton and Ludlow New Hampshire area trappers licensed by Game Warden Irving L. Smith after beaver pelts fall below par. Aroostook County reports abundant dam builders leading to increased trapping licenses for 30 trappers across Ludlow, New Limerick and Houlton.
