Elliston observer H O Brown notes December coldest temperature in Greene county reached ten degrees above zero, based on all local records for the month. He claims no December record shows mercury below ten degrees. The column also contains humor, short political list, and assorted quips from various locales.
Three people escaped injury after a collision at Eighth Street and Washington Avenue. Ralph J. Greene of Terre Haute, 24, drove east on Washington and collided with Ralph Payton, 57, of Jasonville, who traveled south on Eighth. Greene’s car overturned. both vehicles damaged. Ethel Payton uninjured in the Payton car.
Linton Eagles lodge will meet at 7 oclock Wednesday evening at the Republican headquarters to consider rebuilding plans. Lodge officers urged all members to attend.
Carolyn Annette Tucker daughter of Mr and Mrs Alden Tucker has been dismissed from the Freeman Greene County hospital according to the local health report.
A Paris report states sixteen people were killed or injured in a series of plane crashes. The dead include three Americans among 16 on a Le Bourget Air France DC-3 that burned after landing short in fog. A British Viking crash in Middlesex killed the pilot and injured seven. A small plane in the English Channel left two aboard unconfirmed.
Cecilia Bricker 56 a former Linton Jasonville and Detroit resident died Sunday in Los Angeles. Born November 28 1891 in carbon Indiana she lived in Linton and Jasonville before moving to California two years ago. Survived by husband Lloyd son Leslie Puckett wife Mrs George McCosky two brothers and a sister. Body returned to Terre Haute and Welch and Cornett Funeral home for Saturday funeral at 2 pm with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
Coach Garland Ladson announces a trio of games at 6 15 this evening between Linton and Switz City junior high teams. First clash features Fifth and Sixth Grades, followed by the B Welders Switz City match and the A game to close the program.
A chartered DC-3 carrying Puerto Ricans to Miami crashed into a soupy swamp near Field’s Cut on the Savannah River. initial reports said 15 dead and nine injured, but dredge crews later found survivors. The plane had refueled in Raleigh and departed Newark for Miami with 25 Puerto Ricans aboard plus two crew.
Clint Sherwood a 65 year old Lin ton resident was found dead about 10 o clock this morning at the Boy Scout cabin north of Linton where he served as custodian. The body was taken to Welch and Cornett Funeral home with funeral plans to be announced Thursday.
B. J. Brown William Rhoads and Rev Ora Simmons will speak at a Seventh District Old Age Pension meeting at 2 PM Sunday in the Monroe County court house Bloomington. All interested persons from this part of the state are invited to attend.
The Home-makers Guild of Glenburn will gather at the Community House for a covered dish dinner at 12 30 on Friday.

Mrs Myrtle Dove of Linton route 3 and Walter Sexton of Jasonville were admitted for medical treatment yesterday. Robert Mobley of Linton route 2 also admitted yesterday. Mrs Bruce Shake of Linton, Mrs Jesse Jones of Jasonville, and Mrs Ruby Duke and baby of Bloomfield route 1 went home yesterday. Mrs Charles DeCourcy of Linton went home today.
United Press reports heavy rains caused floods across western Oregon and the Columbia River valley forcing hundreds from homes and severing highway routes. Storms persisted since New Year’s, with lingering rains and cold snaps across the nation while forecast warned more snow in northern states.
Homer J. Meeks aged 36 and a driller from Paxton died about 1 pm in an accident at the Regent mine west of Dugger. Details were not learned but it was reported he was caught in a drill and fatally injured. White river moved over the hump and left little crop damage. U S Weather Observer O H Brown reports crested at 20.50 feet, 5 p m Monday, and today stood at 17.53 feet dropping rapidly. Water did not damage wheat or alfalfa and scalding was not present. No rain is forecast tonight or Thursday and extensive flooding should end in a few days.
