Cape Canaveral reports a Thor intermediate range missile launch with a new flat nose cone designed to survive re entry. The Air Force gave no flight result. previous tests show 2,600 miles range though designed for 1,500. A dummy warhead was used and England-based Thors are planned. Vanguard satellite launch delayed by winds. Redstone missile launched with Hydyne fuel, claimed successful.
The Citizen notes an error in Alf's Sportscope from Thursday edition. Linton High School basketball had a season record of 13 wins and 9 losses before the tournament game Thursday night.
Funeral arrangements are set for Mrs. Isabelle Evans 69 of Linton formerly Hymera. She died Thursday at Freeman-Greene County Hospital at 5 00 am. Survived by two brothers William Faulds Linton and Thomas Faulds Detroit. Body at McHugh Funeral Home Hymera. Service at 3 00 pm Friday, then burial in Detroit with subsequent services.

At the Woodmar branch Hoosier State Bank in Hammond two men robbed the bank around 1 55 a m on the busiest day of the week. He serves as a medical aidman with Company A, 317th Engineer Battalion, entered the Army in March 1951 and arrived in Europe in March 1956, previously employed at the US Naval Ammunition Depot Crane.

South Dakota collected total taxes of 39.513 million in 1957, up from 38.908 million in 1956. Sales tax receipts fell to 13.336 million in 1957 from 14.163 million in 1956, reflecting a revenue shift despite overall gains.
Charles Kenneth Compton Jr. 43 of Needham was killed when his car skidded on wet pavement on U S 31 near Southport. He was thrown against a guard rail.
An 18 month old boy named Ricky Trammell plunged into a cold air duct in an Indianapolis apartment and was trapped under a hot grate. Firefighters dismantled part of the furnace, he was rescued, treated for minor burns and bruises, and released from General Hospital.
In Terre Haute Kenneth K. Mercer 44 of Sullivan was granted a new trial by Justice of the Peace Lee Easton after pleading guilty to a drunk driving charge. Mercer who was fined and lost his license had a new trial set for March 27 following defense claims he lacked understanding of the charge and did not have legal counsel.
A deer fled a dog onto the Connecticut River ice in Ascutney Vr. and plunged through the ice. Firefighters in a boat with ladders reached the deer, pulled it ashore, and it rested in a barn for two days before recovering enough strength to return to the woods.
Maine sardines in 1957 totaled 2,117,151 cases, reported by the state Department of Agriculture. The figure is about five percent lower than 1956 output and well below the 1950-56 average of 2,485,000 cases.
