Indiana State Auditor Trudy Etherton, 27, was jailed for contempt after failing to pay 12.7 million dollars to the Mass Transportation Authority of Greater Indianapolis. An appellate court ordered release, while the Indiana Supreme Court weighs a stay as officials debate whether to overturn the jail sentence.

Linton Fire Chief Jack Allen and Fireman Gene Spinks attended an anhydrous ammonia workshop at Vincennes University on Thursday. Robert Rund chaired. R. T. Axworthy spoke on transfer to storage and Ray Scudamore on equipment maintenance. A safety film was shown and discussion groups held.
A fruit stand near the junction of highways 59 and 54, three miles north of Linton, was struck for the second time in a week. Robert W. House, 28, of Dugger, reported an oncoming car drifted left into the curve forcing him onto the shoulder and median, causing his 1968 auto to strike a 1965 vehicle and the stand. The other car, driven by Gerald W. Hasler, hit the stand at 1 05 a.m. Friday, Feb 2%. No injuries were reported. property damage totaled about $1,350 with $150 to the other car and $1,200 to the House vehicle. Greene County Sheriff's officers investigated.
Indiana Democratic state chairman Gordon St Angelo met with party leaders in Washington to renew his bid for Democratic National Chairman. He credited Lawrence F O'Brien’s decision not to seek the post as boosting his chances and said he will double his efforts in the quest.
Saigon reports two USS Air Force pilots Maj Delbert W Fleener 40 Indianapolis Indiana and Maj Hugh A Davis 37 Satellite Beach Florida were arrested at Tan Son Nhut Airbase after landing a C118 cargo aircraft on drug and currency possession charges.
National Guard troops moved into the Santa Barbara Armory at dawn after a third night of clashes near UCSB. About 300 guardsmen were activated by Gov Reagan responding to Sheriff Webster’s request as about 400 agitators clashed with 350 officers in Isla Vista. One man was shot, seven arrested, and several officers injured as tear gas and a helicopter were used to disperse demonstrators.
