Burt Christy reports a northbound flock of 20 geese seen while planting a potato patch. A two car crash south of Linton required five ambulances and emergency crews, delaying access to hospital. Police urge citations for obstructing emergency vehicles.
The Indiana Senate moved from second reading to final vote on a bill banning strike votes except by secret ballot and prohibiting use of imported pickets on strike lines.
Rep. Overton Brooks announced a compromise after Army and National Guard agreed to postpone the six month active duty requirement for new Guardsmen to January 1 next year. Younger recruits 17 to 18 1 2 would train 11 weeks until then and six months after. The plan aims to keep Guard strength near 400000 with possible draftee releases if they then join the Guard.
Mrs Evelyne Dye manager of the Linton Indiana Motor Vehicles Bureau warns Thursday is the final day to buy vehicular license plates. The Linton office will stay open until 5 00 p m Thursday to assist last minute plate buyers.
Five people perish in a Tuesday night crash on U S 31 south of Plymouth Indiana when a southbound car driven by William Clyde Fisher veered into the northbound lane and collided with a vehicle carrying Cloyd Richard Taylor and his family. Victims include Lucinda Brady and her two children William and Donald, and Fisher. Mrs Brady dies at Parkview Memorial Hospital ten minutes after arrival. The collision occurred at 9 55 p m CDT three miles south of Plymouth.
A soaking rain drenches central and southern Indiana with totals from half an inch to an inch. Temperatures fall slowly from the mid 60s to 40s with highs forecast in the upper 30s to upper 40s and rain ending tonight.
The Army said the Nike Hercules anti aircraft missile can intercept advanced aircraft and defend U S cities. Secretary Wilson noted atomic tipped weapons are available for planes and ground launched weapons like Nike Hercules would be deployed later.
A bus carrying 50 North Central High School pupils escaped serious injury when it collided with a pickup truck at the Ind 100 River Road junction. The truck driver Louis Calaway, 20, was hospitalized in fair condition. Bus driver Robert Carpenter, 54, said the bus jumped a guard rail into a ditch. Earlier, another wreck injured 11 children when a truck struck a New Winchester school bus on U S 36.
Mrs Dwight D. Eisenhower completed a three day routine examination at Walter Reed Army Hospital. White House officials said doctors reported everything was fine.
Mrs. E. J. Beckwith of Linton is a patient in West Suburban hospital Oak Park where she is reported to be improving though to remain for some time in room 506. Mrs. Asa Williams spent the weekend at Oak Park.

Bishop Leo A. Pursley was installed today as the sixth bishop of the Fort Wayne diocese succeeding the late Archibishop John F. Noll. The diocese serves 124 409 Catholics in 78 parishes across 14 counties including Fort Wayne and South Bend with Archbishop Paul C. Schulte of Indianapolis as installing prelate. The sermon was given by Bishop Henry J. Grimmelsman of Evansville who once taught Pursley.
The Department of Agriculture revised downward last year’s farm income to 11.8 billion dollars marking a 4 percent rise from 1955. It also noted price supports cost taxpayers more in 1956 than during 1933 to 1952 combined.
Boris Morros a 62 year old Russian born Hollywood producer and music director was named by the government as the person in 14 overt acts connected to three accused members of a Soviet espionage ring. Morros is held as a potential government witness while the Sables and Albam face trial.
Two defendants were fined in Jasonville Mayor Earl Row's court. Gilbert Mayfield paid 15 dollars total for assault and battery, arrested by Chief Oscar Suthard. Wayne Stiffler paid 19.75 dollars total for reckless driving after pleading guilty.
A $58 million Breed power plant north of Sullivan will be the world’s largest single generating unit with 450000 kilowatts for Indiana and Michigan Electric. J R Mills says contracts for construction are likely to be let soon with peak summer 1957 employment near 300 and most work by Green Construction for excavation. Foundations begin summer 1957 with steel work possible next fall. completion slated for late 1958. The plant, 23 stories tall with a smoke stack over 500 feet, will hire workers at an on site employment office.
President Eisenhower and French Premier Guy Mollet begin talks at the White House on Mollet’s Washington visit. Foreign Minister Pineau met with Secretary Dulles as the two sides seek to repair postwar strains after the Egypt invasion and plan a Bermuda meeting with Macmillan.
Indiana Senate approved a bill to cut gross income tax for wholesale grocers from one fourth of a percent to one percent on gross profits. The measure, aiming to ease revenue pressures and offset a projected state deficit, passed 43-3 and goes to the House. Gov Handley may let it become law without his signature.
Seven people were injured in a Sunday night two car crash on state road 5 four miles south of Linton. Vernon Mowery 22 was listed in critical condition with a head injury and extensive cuts. Others ranged from fair to serious, including Dessie Sanders 28 and Peggy Lea 8 who were improving.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Blakely Deputy Harry Wade and State Policeman George Campbell pursued Robert Sullivan to his Springville rural route home to arrest him on assault and battery for allegedly grabbing and injuring the Roberts family dog Old Nig. Mrs Avis Roberts of Owensburg filed the affidavit.
William A. Raines 55 of Indianapolis died when his speeding car left Indiana 57 and rolled over three times in a field near Elnora. His wife Francis 39 sustained head injuries and was hospitalized in Washington. Two young children in the car escaped injury.
Members of the J O Y class of Linton First Baptist church will attend a monthly class party at 7 00 this evening at the church, officers announced.
Mrs. Winifred Humphreys Maddox 72 of Lyons died at 11:50 AM in Freeman Greene county hospital after years of declining health. Born May 12, 1884 near Switz City, she lived in Linton before marrying Fred H. Maddox on June 18, 1930. Survived by husband, two brothers Leo Humphreys and Ray A. Humphreys, and three nephews. sister Pearl Humphreys preceded in death. Funeral at Welch and Cornett Funeral Home Friday at 2 PM with Rev. Royden Rea officiating. burial in Fairview cemetery.
Miss Mary Jo Rollison daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Rollison Worthington route underwent major surgery at St Vincent Hospital Indianapolis recently. She expects to return home this week.
