A bid to permanently prohibit the German American Volksbund in Lake county Indiana will be heard March 8 before Superior Judge Bertram C Jenkines. A temporary restraining order stops the group from soliciting members or holding meetings in the county. Defendants named include Fritz Kuhn and Wilhelm Kunze with attorney Richard S Kaplain. Kaplan says the bund's activities threaten American citizens happiness and homes.
Hans Schmis, mayor of Graz, Austria, resigns in protest against a government ban on demonstrations. The city saw a flare of antisemitic incidents last night and into today, reflecting rising tensions in the region.
Linton high school loses 42 to 30 on Evansville floor to Reitz as Beasley nets four field goals and four free throws. McCaffrey leads Reitz with ten points while Adkins misses only one foul shot for Linton. Coach Goodman credits Reitz’s hot scoring and looks ahead to sectional preliminaries in Bloomfield.
A pageant titled Challenge of the Birthday Candles will be presented at 7 o clock Sunday night at First Baptist church. It commemorates the sixtieth anniversary of the Women's American Baptist Home Mission Society observed this month by the Northern Baptist association. Participants include Mrs Omer Dodd Mrs R Lenning Mrs Will Harrah Mrs O D Clayton Mrs Will Roll Mrs Will Robertson Mrs Ven Johnson Mrs Jack Workman and Mrs Harry J Bailey. Rev Harry J Bailey will open with a short talk and music. Public invited.
Ab Miller, a student at Central Normal College in Danville, is spending the weekend at his parents' home in the city.
Three Sullivan county men confessed to a multi county chicken theft ring spanning Greene Sullivan and Knox counties. Loren Cooksey Everett Isbell and George Buck received prison terms with Buck’s suspended due to youth. Authorities say more suspects are in custody as the case clears up additional thefts near Linton and surrounding areas.
The annual Sullivan county Latin contest took place this morning at Sullivan High School. Students from Dugger Farmersburg Hymera Pleasantville and Sullivan competed for first and second in Divisions I and II. Alternate and third place winners named. District meet at Vincennes on April 2.
At year end 1937, about two hundred greetings were sent to students worldwide through the American Fellowship, as stated by E. F. Lovett. In Willows California Mr and Mrs Morrie Friedman and their newborn son share a Jan 3 birthday.
The Sandborn Lions club announced plans to sponsor and build a Scout cabin on town property donated by Lion Grover Bowman. Logs are secured, plans call for a 12 by 20 foot single room with fireplace, hardwood floor and brick foundation. The project will cost about 60 dollars with labor donated by members. A fundraising basketball game was set to raise cabin funds with Lions Lex McKeemp Squires and Buster Neal named on the committee.
