The sun caused a small fire at Lawrence Stephens' home in Jaybird when a magnifying shaving mirror on a window sill directed sun rays to the kitchen ceiling, igniting a composition ceiling with very slight damage. Earlier, firefighters were sent to 1010 B Street SE for a grass fire with no damage.

Mack Fitzpatrick a 51 year old Marco grocer died Friday evening at Freeman-Greene county hospital after a two year illness. He operated a Marco store for twenty years and was a member of the Marco Methodist church and Lyons Masonic lodge. He was born April 5 1900 at Avoca and is survived by Rae Irene Fitzpatrick his wife, a son Bradford, two grandchildren and five sisters plus a brother. funeral services were held at Marco Methodist Church with burial in Prairie Chapel Cemetery.

Bedford Driver Survives Snow Collision at State Roads 54 and 57
Bedford truck driver Orda Claude Turner, 23, escaped death after his pickup struck a southbound semi at the 54 57 junction during a heavy snowfall. Turner suffered severe facial head and leg cuts, treated and dismissed. The semi driver Cleo Leonard of Washington and passenger Leon Brothers also faced no injuries. Turner faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and failing to stop, with a March 8 court appearance.
