Phil N. Eskew, superintendent of Sullivan schools, is named to lead Huntington city schools. He will replace H Burton Stephan on June 1, step down due to ill health but will return to teaching at his request. Mrs Heinz Bostel, Huntington Board president, said Eskew was chosen from 30 applicants.

Pearl Strahla Dies North of Jasonville
Pearl Strahla 80, of Lewis Route One, died at 8 20 this morning at home six miles north of Jasonville after months of poor health. Born June 4 1878 in Clay County he lived there most of his life. A retired coal timer and farmer he was a member of Falls View Church and the United Mine Workers of America. Surviving are his widow Dell Strahla five sons Foland Virgil Noel Frank all of South Bend James of Xenia Ohio a daughter Mia Anna Wagner Dayton Ohio a brother Melvin Strahla Coalmont 10 grandchildren and no great grandchildren. Body taken to McClanahan Funeral Home Jasonville for funeral arrangements.

Owen County youths confess burglaries near Spencer
Five Owen County youths including Jerry Brault Darrell White Damon White Warren White and Jackie Mauder confessed to participating in numerous burglaries across Spencer and nearby towns over the past two years. They stole fuel autos tires and batteries from farms and businesses including the H Layman farm visited over 120 times. Brault and Darrell White pleaded guilty to second degree burglary and petit larceny Damon White to petit larceny. Warren White and Mauder faced arraignment on petit larceny charges.
