Harry Borders of Dugger recovers at Mary Sherman hospital after a timber fell at the Thunderbird mine near Shelburn injuring ribs and his right arm and shoulder on February 16.
Police arrested 19 year old William Obergsell on burglary charges in Mineola New York. He allegedly said he needed the money to pay legal costs for another burglary case.
Six people died in Indiana over a 54 hour period with Lafayette bearing the brunt. Four fatalities occurred there including three from two Lafayette crashes. Purdue freshman Ronald Acter died in a head on collision on Ind 28 near Frankfort. Other deaths included Earl England in Tippecanoe County and Robert Abernathy in Covington near U.S. 136.
Police used clubs and tear gas to break up mobs injuring more than 60 people in Blantyre and spreading to Limbe and Mzimba. The unrest followed a mass meeting by the African National Congress demanding Nyasaland’s cession to native control. Prime Minister Roy Welensky vowed to use rigorous legal methods to restore order.

Mrs. Lucy Ann Cox 92 lifelong Dugger resident died at home Saturday morning. Born December 8 1866 in Antioch she was a daughter of Philbert and Margaret Wright. Survived by two daughters four sons and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral at Antioch Church Tuesday at 10 AM with Maurice Clymore officiating. Burial in church cemetery.
Herbert Everhart 30 of Jasonville rural route escaped injury when his auto struck a Milwaukee coal car on East Sycamore street Friday night. He pled guilty to driving with a suspended license and was fined 50 plus costs totaling 64.75. Donnie West 23 of Jasonville rural route was fined 2 and costs 16.75 after arrest for reckless driving by Officers Reese and Parr.

Floyd E Bemis 67 a retired coal miner from Coalmont died at Freeman Greene County Hospital after two years of declining health. Born June 14 1891 in Clay County he left a widow Rachel R Bemis and 4 daughters 3 sons 1 sister and 1 brother with 12 grandchildren. Services were set for Bemis residence Coalmont with Rev Beadle and Rev Walker and burial at Hymera K of P cemetery.
Harold Frederick Ellett and Lillian Anna Pearson of Bloomfield were united in marriage in a single ring ceremony Saturday afternoon. Justice of the peace Frank C. Dean officiated in his Bloomfield courthouse office, and the couple plan to reside in Bloomfield.
Greensburg Indiana mayor Sheldon Smith, also a city court judge, was slashed by a razor during an ambush in his downtown office. He identifies a possible grudge tied to a friend he sentenced, as police question three men detained then released.
In Indianapolis House Speaker Birch Bayh led Democrats to reduce the biennial budget by 23 million dollars at the weekend session opening. Miss Sinclair a 75 year old former Greene county teacher died at Freeman-Greene county hospital after a long career in Greene county schools and at the NLRB office in Indianapolis. She was born May 2 1883 in Fairplay township. Surviving cousins include Grace Bynum and Russell Huffman of Bloomfield. Services at Jenkins and Sons Funeral Home Bloomfield Tuesday at 2 30 p m with Rev David Wilson and Rev A W Jarboe officiating, burial in Grandview Cemetery.
Mrs. Mary Ann Edwards 81 of Dugger died at Freeman-Greene county hospital after four years illness. Born Aug 27 1877 in Leigh England she moved to Dugger in 1906 later living in Flint Michigan. Survived by son Horace Edwards daughter Mary Alice Davies five grandchildren four great grandchildren. Burial in Dugger cemetery with services at Evans Funeral Home.
John Bain age 84 a retired coal miner died unexpectedly at his home in the Glenburn Addition Linton. Funeral services were held Saturday at Welch and Cornett Funeral Home with Rev Royden Rea officiating and burial in Fairview cemetery. He was born July 9 1874 in Clay County son of John and Margaret Bain. Survived by nephew William Griffith Sr Jasonville and niece Mrs George Marcum Terre Haute with two brothers and two sisters deceased.
