Linton City fire department responded to a roof fire at Herman Graper’s residence at Sixth and East Vincennes streets around 6 30 last evening. Damages were limited and flames were extinguished quickly.

Otho Richards of Salsberry route 2 underwent a major operation this morning. Ora Sullivan of Linton route 1 admitted for treatment. A daughter weighing 9 pounds 5 ounces was born this morning to Mr and Mrs Milton Bogard of Bloomfield named Margo. Miss Opha Lester of Bloomfield and Mrs George Courtney of Elnora have also been admitted for treatment.
The Rural Electric Membership Corporation of Western Indiana holds its first anniversary event on Saturday March 11 at Switz City High School with a noon basket dinner. The day includes electrical exhibits displays and county talent music and reports on electrification progress by officers. Committees include hall committee Earl McIntyre entertainment committee E R Bridges and others with all members and dealers urged to participate.
A five hour blaze in Newcastle caused about 55 000 in losses. The Heiser Hatchery fire spread to the National Cigar and Chalfant Produce buildings. Fire originated from an electric brooder, gutting four firms and shattering windows across Broad Street.
San Jose report cites six year old Clarence Dorshier as the youngest hold up victim in six years. In St James park a bandit took the dollar from the child, leaving him unharmed but shaken.

Mrs. Dora E. Pennington, 79, widow of former Linton mayor John Pennington, died at 10:15 AM at her home 149 Fourth Street SE. Born October 24, 1863 in Vincennes, she and her husband operated businesses including the Opera House confectionery. She leaves four daughters, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and siblings. Funeral arrangements pending.
Theodore Richards, 38, of Dugger route 1, is recovering from injuries after a Wednesday slate fall at the Peabody 48 mine near Cass. He suffered a scalp wound, injuries to his left ankle and right arm, and other cuts. He was taken to Mary Sherman Hospital in Sullivan. his condition is not considered serious.
Indiana state senate approved an election law reform bill by 34 to 10 allowing recount petitions in all state office contests except governor and U. S. senator. The state supreme court would hear challenges, determine merits, and appoint counting agencies.
G W Purcell, longtime Bucktown area resident, died at his daughter’s home in Champaign Illinois. He was brother to Mrs H Bedwell Bucktown Mrs panel Spencey Pleasantville and Mrs Rachel Wilson Sullivan. He lived in Liberty Canada for years, returned after his wife’s death, and funeral services were held Wednesday in the Christian church in Taseola TM.
