He owned Bill Moss Inc Drug Co and was active in the Democratic party with runs for Seventh District congress and Indiana secretary of state. Greene county BMV warns six days remain to buy 1961 vehicle license tags. Branch offices at Linton Jasonville and Bloomfield stay open Wednesday February 22 despite Washington's holiday. final day to purchase plates is Tuesday February 28.
The first meeting for a Young Farmers class will be held at 7 00 p m Thursday evening February 23 at the L and M school's farm shop. Vocational agriculture teacher Fred Hensley invites all young farmers aged 18 to 25 to attend. Sessions will cover farm shop work.
Two fatal traffic accidents in Indiana raise the state toll to 116 for 1961. Jack B. Castile 39 of Brookston died when his car struck a bridge abutment on Indiana 53 near Walcott. A two car crash on US 30 near Warsaw killed Charles Drew 59 of Huntington and seriously injured three others including Fred Bruder 54 and his wife Zylphia 49 of Downers Grove Illinois and Henrietta Maloff of Chicago.
Banks and the Greene county courthouse will be closed Wednesday in observance of Washington's Birthday. Auto License Bureau branches at Linton Bloomfield and Jasonville remain open to the final day for purchasing 1961 licenses on Tuesday February 28. The Elton post office follows holiday schedule with one incoming at 9 30 a m and one outgoing mail dispatch. lobby open all day, lock box service only, no rural or local mail deliveries.
Indianapo lis Star state editor Ernest A Wilkinson filed assault and battery charges against Indiana State Teachers College campus police officer Elmer A Anderson after he says he was forcibly ejected from a closed meeting about Mayor Tucker and a Saturday Evening Post article. Anderson denied force used and surrendered to state police posting 500 dollars bond for West Terre Haute court appearance Saturday.
Katanga President Moise Tshombe ordered general mobilization for defense against a United Nations declaration of war. He barred foreigners from leaving, warned frontiers may close, and urged all residents to defend Katanga as U.N. Security Council authorized force to prevent civil war in the Congo. He called for a Geneva leaders’ conference March 6.
Greene county students learn National Foundation health scholarships offer 500 awards nationally for medicine nursing physical therapy occupational therapy and medical social work. Each grant pays 500 a year for four years totaling 2000. Applications due April 1.
Texas Christian University rookie quarterback Guy Gibbs at 6-7 and end Aubrey Linne at 6-7 formed probably the tallest forward passing combination in college football in 1960.
Rose M Callahan Sisk, 72, a former Linton and Jasonville resident, died Monday at the Indiana Soldiers home in Lafayette after five years of illness. Survived by husband Ernest Sisk of Lafayette, two brothers, four sisters, and several nieces and nephews. Services Thursday at the Soldiers Home Chapel with burial there.
Tom Shelton announced his office would stay open all day Wednesday to help residents obtain tax receipts for vehicle licenses. All other courthouse offices will be closed.
