South Vietnamese paratroopers with U S artillery and air power repelled a North Vietnamese counteroffensive on the coast 330 miles northeast of Saigon. The three day clash in Quang Ngai area left about 400 enemy dead and more than 350 bodies recovered or buried.
The State Highway Commission says flashers at the Worthington bridge and an approach sign may distract drivers and raise rear end accidents. They note 75 other bridges have similar clearance and offer no alternative solution. A reader requests a survey on flashing signals.

Clinton Illinois judge Frank Fisher of the Vermillion Circuit Court died Sunday night at Vermillion County Hospital from a heart attack. Funeral services are pending at the Clinton First Funeral Home.
Indiana Senate Finance Committee altered the House passed 2.1 billion budget over the weekend. Chair Robert O Bannon said the moves included a 500000 cut to the mental health budget and 500000 added for housing at the Indiana Girls School plus 195000 for another Department of Correction camp.
The Greene County Board of Commissioners met in Bloomfield with all members present. They approved all claims, accepted road viewer recommendations to maintain Locust Drive and Kennedy Drive, considered blacktoping a Center Township road, and extended courthouse Saturday hours Feb 18 to May 1 and Oct 1 to Nov 6. Depositories named include Bloomfield Bank Citizens National and Peoples Trust Co Worthington Bank.
UPI reports the Justice Department plans to seek new federal indictments in the 1964 slayings of three civil rights workers near Philadelphia Mississippi. A grand jury will be convened by Judge Harold Cox with Philadelphia killings on the docket. The panel may also consider indictments in the Vernon Dahmer firebomb death at Hattiesburg.
Weekend traffic toll in Indiana rises with seven fatalities including Henry Metzger in Indianapolis area and Frank Wick in Fort Wayne. Toby Ricketts remains a listed driver facing charges after a separate collision. Raleigh Moody died from injuries after a crash in South Bend.

Defense Secretary McNamara told the Senate panel that impartial Asian leaders support continuing U S bombing of North Vietnam. Harold Hamerickhouse a 43 year old Bloomfield resident was crushed when a storm damaged tree fell on him while he cut it on his farm five miles northeast of Bloomfield. State Trooper Robert Kirk said the accident occurred shortly before noon and a son Charles helped summon aid. Funeral services are planned Wednesday at the Odon Evangelical United Brethren church with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
