Funeral services for 84 year old Mrs. Lacey Blevins were conducted in the Newark church with burial in Newark cemetery. A longtime Newark resident, she lived in Bloomfield and Worthington the last eight years and is survived by three daughters, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Alice Earle daughter of Charles Earle of West Linton underwent an operation this morning in the City hospital in Indianapolis.
After a week away, a local gang raided three gasoline stations Saturday night and Sunday morning in Linton, taking only fourteen cents from two sites and missing about $57. Reported at Sarmont, Greene and Grass stations were small thefts. cigarettes moved, no merchandise. Police suspect local talent behind the weekend burglaries, which bring total visits to sixteen in a month.
Franklin Pierce McCall, sentenced for kidnapping James Bailey Cash who died in the abductor’s hands, had his execution postponed to Friday to allow defense lawyers to appeal to the U S Supreme Court. Governor Cone ordered the delay. the death warrant remains in effect.
James W. Colvin aged 82, father of J. P. Colvin of this city, died Saturday at his daughter Mrs. Thomas Dawson's home in Princeton after a several week illness. He belonged to the Presbyterian church in Union and was well known in Linton. Funeral services were held in Princeton this morning.
Infant son of Mr and Mrs Robert Batey south of Dugger died shortly after birth Sunday morning at home. Survived by parents and grandparents Mr and Mrs Albert Minter. Funeral held at family residence with burial in Dugger cemetery. M J Aikin and Son funeral home in charge.
Mrs. Ottie Pearl Wilson 61 wife of Alexander Wilson former Greene county deputy sheriff died at St. Anthony's hospital Terre Haute at 1 30 am after a month long illness. She was born June 22 1877 and lived in Greene county most of her life later moving to Terre Haute. Survived by husband three children Eiffel Huff Reba Goodman and Christyne Wilson. Burial in Switz City cemetery after services in Linton First Baptist Church with Rev Logan Hatfield. Funeral arrangements by Newkirk Funeral home Pleasantville.
Sen Gerald Nye co author of the senate military affairs committee probe into France buying over 600 American fighters announced a plan to impose rigid restrictions on future plane sales. He did not specify linking changes to Roosevelt's emergency air corps expansion bill but urged breaking the arms export cycle and predicted an eventual ban on military aircraft and munitions exports.
Banks in Linton and Greene counties will be closed all day Wednesday February 22 in observance of Washington's Birthday legal holiday.
Hospital report lists five month old Sue Padgett of Worthington admitted for treatment. Mrs. Jewell Soliday of Lyons returned home Sunday morning. Mrs. Floyd McCullough moved to her home. Miss Mary Campbell discharged from the hospital Sunday.
Linton-Stockton high school reports 60 pupils absent today down from 84 last Friday as the flu wanes. Other towns in the region note improving attendance with Sullivan and Daviess county nearing normal levels after a week of disrupted classes.
United Press reports Indiana rainfall of one to two inches as J H Armington, government weather observer, notes rivers rising but flood risk lowers. Wabash River roars to 842 feet higher at Wabash and deeper at Logansport. White River up over three feet at Elliston and nearly four feet at Anderson. Armington says freezing tonight could limit run off. otherwise little flood danger unless rains increase.
Indiana and Iowa prepare for a high scoring Big Ten clash in Bloomington after a 50 39 first meeting Indiana led by a strong offense with Capt. Ben Stephens of Iowa as a top scorer. Coach Rollie Williams will start Irvine Plett Prasse and Lind as the lineup.
Members of the Greene County Nurses Association will hold their regular meeting at 7 30 Tuesday evening in the Freeman Greene County Hospital. All members are urged to attend.
New York police boosted the guard for tonight’s pro Nazi German American band rally at Madison Square Garden. Details rose from 950 to 1,300 officers amid protests by anti Nazi groups and a call from the Socialist Workers Party to gather in front of the venue.
A statewide search was ordered for Anna Louise Sweit zer of Pasadena after her parents reported she was last seen Sunday afternoon at a playground with a playmate. Police believe a middle aged gardener abducted her and are coordinating the search efforts.
Knox County Indiana Representative C Omer Free announces a public hearing on House Bill 508 regulating strip mining. The revised measure seeks constitutional protections and sets leveled spoil bank requirements while allowing grazing or tree planting after 60 days of operation. Union locals and coal operators plan to attend with Bicknell and Linton opposition leaders sending representatives.

Indianapolis Feb 20 a compromise liquor law revision bill faces a showdown between the Republican house and Democratic senate as they report it for passage. The plan removes the cheer port of entry rule and wholesale limits while fixing tavern closing hours and keeping the governor appoints of the liquor commission. The house also defeats a reapportionment move and passes related measures on milk, flood control, and bar admission with new rules.
Edward S Brantner 68 of Indianapolis died Sunday in a city hospital after several weeks illness. He visited Linton often to see daughter Mrs Lawrence Armantrout. Survived by widow and three children Mrs Armantrout of Linton, Mrs Catherine Rabels and Edward Jr. of Indianapolis. Funeral arrangements with Harry Moore funeral home with services at 2 PM Tuesday in Indianapolis.
Darby Fire Company No 1 claims national oldest volunteer fire service status, founded 164 years ago in Darby Pennsylvania. Its famed artifact is The Old Darby Ram, a fire apparatus imported from England 150 years ago.
